Story Time: My mom sent me this picture today and I couldn’t help but smile. However, that smile was followed by tears of gratitude. (long post warning)

My maternal grandma—was born in Arkansas to teachers. After graduating from high school, she moved to Detroit. Though qualified for some of the “better paying” jobs she found herself working as a maid because a health screener found that she was diabetic. In spite of this, she was able to purchase her own home and raise 6 children while fostering countless others—not to mention, feed the neighborhood 😊.

My mother—grew up on the Eastside of Detroit. She decided that she didn’t want to struggle financially and that she wanted better opportunities for herself and future children. At 10, she got her own paper route. In high school she was an All -State Volleyball player and was offered scholarships to play in college. After graduating college, she became a Detroit Police Officer and started a family. However, shortly after I was born, a slip and fall accident while on duty, caused her to need a wheelchair, crutches or a cane for the following 10 years. She couldn’t go up stairs unassisted or walk long distances. I have several childhood memories pushing my mom in her wheelchair. Despite her injury, she went on to become a successful entrepreneur—owning several homes in the Detroit Metro Area and sending all her children to their university of choice (those pictured at Alum). Also, my mom is now able to run, bike and walks 8miles + per day.

Yesterday may have been , but I like to celebrate the dope women in my life whenever I can. Because of the phenomenal woman before me pushing past and shattering the limitations of their minds or that society tried to place on them, I’m able to soar.

I don’t know about you, but looking through photo albums always reminds me that I need to be fully present in all moments—whether good or bad, happy or sad (yes, I just sang that as I typed lol). I’m looking forward to logging off my computer and putting my phone down this weekend to just be. Bring on the snuggles and tickle fights! 😁 Happy Friday Positive Thinkers!!•

Look what came today!! Yep, one of our new t-shirts.

My daughter put it on right out of the package and has yet to take it off. I think it’s providing her with the motivation she needs to complete her math homework—percentages and ratios (yeesh-I don’t miss those lol).

If you need a little boost of inspiration or want to spread some positive energy to those around you—go to iamphenomenallyme.com and grab some gear.

Moment of Honesty: I allowed myself to be stuck in analysis paralysis for 3+ years. I kept running into what I felt were brick walls, but looking back they were only cardboard barriers. It’s funny how we sometimes allow the small things to derail us, but we’re so ready to push through big challenges.

Please be encouraged today, to pick up the unfinished product/idea God keeps placing on your heart and breathe life into it. While you’re moving forward, remember to give yourself the same grace you afford others. I’m rooting for you and sending positive energy your way. Let’s keep moving forward together!

“Korene, whatcha been up to?!”

Me: Raising these kids, working from home, maintaining my sanity, praying, doing karate, taking walks, connecting with loved ones, being my children’s personal assistant, singing, consciously taking time for my husband, getting comfortable with my new job, shopping on amazon, crying sometimes, laughing a lot, organizing my home, budgeting, playing with my dog, reflecting, drinking water, tickling my kids, washing clothes, going to tele-therapy, missing folks, trying to appreciate a slower pace, listening to my body. .and then some.

I pray that each of you is well and that you’re taking the time to do what you must, to maintain your peace. Love y’all ✌🏽 ❤️
