🫶 THE FIVE BODY LAYERS - BONE 🫶

As the fourth body layer, the bone is the fourth level being addressed during a Thai Massage.

One way that this layer is accessed is through percussion which creates vibration though the first three layers. You can also affect the bone layer when doing joint mobilization techniques.

In order for percussion or joint mobilization to be effective, you need to spend more time with these techniques than you might normally do during a typical Thai Massage sequence. One or two minutes of percussion in one small area is what is necessary to make a therapeutic difference as opposed to maybe three or five "hits" you might do during a sequence (which really doesn't have much effect at all).

When doing joint mobilization, do it many times, maybe 21 hip circles for instance. This will build fluid in the joint and create the conditions for easier movement, breaking up stiffness in the joint.

✨ OCTOBER IS PHYSICAL THERAPY MONTH ✨

National Physical Therapy Week, which was first observed in June of 1981, became National Physical Therapy MONTH in 1992.

In Traditional Thai medicine, there are five roots. One of those roots is called Hattha Saht. Hattha means hand or manual and Saht means science. Sometimes it is translated as physical therapy. Within the root of Hattha Saht there are numerous physical therapies, massage being just one of them.

Other physical therapies in the Thai medical tradition include cupping, scraping, bone setting, herbal compress and more. You may be surprised to see cupping there, but traditionally in Thailand, cupping was common, using water buffalo horns as the cups.

The difference between cupping that you may know from Chinese medicine and how it is used in Thai medicine is simply the different theoretical understanding in it's application. Chinese cupping comes from the Traditional Chinese medical perspective and while Thai cupping relies on the understanding from the Thai medical perspective.
