More awful or (ehem), abstract drawings in procreate. I’m still learning procreate slooooooooooowwwwly. So here’s the latest. Why am I posting these? I want to show you that if you feel creative and have the desire to draw, paint, sculpt, write, whatever…do it! Make sh*tty art (cause it’s all sh*tty at first). Do it anyway! 🧑‍🎨

Everyone deserves food, water, and shelter. When I was right out of college, the US was in a recession. It was 2011, and I couldn’t find a job anywhere. I couldn’t even get a job at Pinkberry. But that’s OK. I don’t think Pinkberry lasted more than a couple years in Chicago . I searched and searched for jobs, and they just weren’t calling back. I thought I was going to be working for a big company or design firm, making good money. But instead, I found myself worrying about how I was going to pay rent and how I was gonna pay for food. I got help for rent, and I applied for snap benefits for food. It got me through a really tough time when it seemed like there was no other option. I somehow got through, but who knows where I would’ve been without food banks and snap benefits.

If they are not going to help us, we need to step up and help each other. findhelp.org is here to help if you or someone you know is a need.

Terrible drawings part 2. Ya know, some things I’m learning with this challenge are to continue to keep a regular drawing practice, getting more comfortable with procreate as opposed to Adobe Illustrator, and getting comfortable with imperfect drawings. Some of these are things I’d never usually attempt to draw either, so I’m challenging myself in that way too. Here’s to doing things terribly to see what happens!

Terrible drawings part 1.

I wasn’t going to post any of these, but then I thought about how long it had been Since I’ve posted something here. I thought people might want to know what I’m doing beyond sign art. I found this 30 day challenge online recently. I’m usually not great at keeping up with these because work and life get so busy.

This one sounded fun though and it’s allowed me to let go a little and be okay with the crooked lines and imperfect shapes and lettering. I’m really enjoying this side of being an artist. More to come soon…

I’m redesigning my logo. It’s been a long time coming. When I originally designed my logo for Neat Idea Lisa, it was around 2013 and I was looking for jobs and trying to cater to what I thought people wanted to see. After all this time, I know that what really matters is being true to myself, and being authentic, not only in my life and my art, but also in my brand. I wanted to make this new rebrand and new logo, fun and approachable and casual, and just kind of reflect me and my art. I’ve narrowed it down to three which one do you like?

Our Story

Hi I’m Lisa Danielson, the founder of Neat Idea, Lisa.

I am an artist specializing in illustration and merchandise design, and I focus mainly on self care, body positivity and living an eco friendly lifestyle in my work. I sell my merchandise online at: http://www.etsy.com/shop/neatidealisa, and post free art on social media (like Instagram and here on Facebook) regularly.

If you’re looking to support me and my work in a small way, you can donate at http://www.patreon.com/neatidealisa, so that I can keep doing this. I appreciate any support.

Also, if you are having a hard time financially right now, feel free to message me and I will negotiate a price for you. I want everyone to have the things in their home right now that they need, but also things that make you feel good and somewhat optimistic.
