Nas once said "hip-hop is dead,"but he's one of the main people keeping it alive. Even without dropping an album this year, it's turning out to be one of the most active and meaningful years of his career. Let's break it down!
Recently, Nas donated $1M of his own money and raised another $1M during his speech for The Hip Hop Museum in the Bronx.
He launched Legend Has It.." campaign on his Mass Appeal label with 7 albums by 7 iconic acts:
* Slick Rick (first album in 26 years)
* Mobb Deep (first album after Prodigy's death
* Ghostface Killah
* De La Soul (first album in 9 years)
* Big L (fourth and final posthumous album
* Raekwon
* Nas & DJ Premier
On top of that, Nas dropped a limited-edition "Legend Has It..." comic book with Marvel, celebrating hip-hop legends as superheroes.
In 2023, Nas and his partners founded the Paid in Full Foundation to support hip-hop pioneers who never got compensated properly for their influence. The foundation provides financial help and healthcare. Rappers like Rakim and Scarface have already received support.
Nas shows how crucial it is to give flowers to the legends of your culture. He gives them the freedom to release music without the usual label restrictions, introduces them to a new generation, and supports them financially.
From funding the Hip Hop Museum, to helping legends release new music without label pressure, to creating a foundation that supports pioneers with healthcare and financial aid, we looked at how Nas is actively protecting the culture.
"This series is to encourage and inspire hip hop and remind us all of the pureness of hip hop. I hope that we all can do this together.
I'm honored to be able to rock next to these guys and try to hold my own next to them because of how ill these dudes are." - Nas
