✨Great news! ✨

My Tia has an appointment for surgery scheduled at the end of October!!

Thanks to being able to offer money upfront, they agreed to put her on a payment plan. Such a relief!

😮‍💨 HOWEVER -There is still her recovery time she needs support with. 2 weeks off her leg!! She has been working through this injury, busting her ass like a boss to make it, skipping meals/fasting, taking odd jobs, always searching and applying for more. Since the pandemy started, she has been doing this, after a store closure left her out a job of 5 years. Even getting injured, I have been watching her NON STOP hustling and taking care of herself emotionally and physically, working overnight shifts, 24 hr shifts, any time of day shifts, in security and management on everything from how people live in their houses, to how they are made, in education, in tourism, in retail, hotels etc etc etc you name it! She is my Non Stop Queen and inspiration. I believe in her so much and no matter how much we raise I know we will figure it out, whatever comes our way.

🤕For 2 weeks post surgery it is imperative that she sit down and rest, or she will risk permanent mobility loss in her leg. A death sentence for losing for her ability to work. I’m genuinely begging you for a dollar. She is some of the only true family I have, but I’m barely keeping myself afloat, and I can’t help her alone. $5 would go so far. Food, medicine, rent. She is going to continue to work until her surgery. So we will have until mid October to send her something.

✨Update ✨

Thanks to the support of several people, we were able to help Maria get evaluated further to determine the severity of her knee. The fluid build up was drained, and she received a cortisone treatment to help alleviate the pain. She also was given a brace she has to wear all day everyday except when she sleeps.

Unfortunately, the exam also revealed that she was misdiagnosed from the beginning and surgery is not only necessary but if she doesn’t get it, she will risk losing mobility in her leg for the rest of her life.

2 hairline fractures, a major loss of muscle mass, and a displaced meniscus- are the true cause to her pain.

She is getting an MRI next week to determine the specifics of her surgery needs, and then she is scheduled for surgery the earliest in October.

Currently, she is cleaning houses for work, because she can’t afford to stop. We are going to spend the next several months saving up everything we can to help her get this surgery and maintain stability during her recovery.

May update:

✨Great news!!✨

My Tia found a less invasive method for healing! Since posting this she has been working non stop, while also seeking 2nd and 3rd opinions and found that there was a more accessible, less expensive, and less invasive way to seek treatment.

Instead of surgery, she is now pursuing a treatment known as PRP, platelet rich plasma injections. She will likely be needing a second procedure in several months because of her age, but it has high chances of truly helping her heal her knee.

🙏🏽The new ask will total 17,800 pesos, or 1,048 usd. About 2/3 less than the surgery, and a quicker recovery time of 2 weeks instead of 2 months.

I am still planning to paint a series of work 🎨to gift to those who donate anything $5 and above. The value of even a single American dollar will go so far for her. Anything helps!!

Coming back into the herbal world after a brief pause so that I could tend to my family. Previously focused on harvesting and crafting, I will now be leaning more into the teaching/advocating aspect of my relationship with herbs. I still have much to learn myself, and crafting is very life giving for me, but I’m struggling with the trending herbalism and witchy brand chasing. I don’t want to be a brand. I don’t want to have a product line just like the rest of them, and honestly, there are so many amazing brands existing already that I would rather support. I don’t want to add hype to the over priced image of herbal health and wellness. I want to make a difference with what I have to offer. I want to take the sky high luxury that has become herbal wellness and bring it back down to earth. There is so much power in understanding our bodies and the relationship we could have with the land around us. That’s what I want to focus on. How am I going to show up for that? TBD.
