👋 At Advantage Therapy Services, we help people of all ages find their voices, rebuild essential skills, and reconnect with the moments that matter most. From children learning to communicate- to adults recovering after injury, every client is a valued part of our community!

It’s essential for us to collaborate with local physicians, schools, and families to ensure therapy carries over into real life. And we mentor future speech-language pathologists to extend our impact even further.

🍎 Winning the would help us reach more people, invest in new therapy tools and technology, and expand community education for families and caregivers. It would also spotlight the importance of adult cognitive rehabilitation and uplift those working hard to regain independence. ❤️ We believe in therapy that restores confidence, resilience, and connection. We’re confident that this recognition would help us keep doing exactly that.

📌Here’s the breakdown:

Get to know your patient better. You can’t make an effective plan without the knowledge of what their daily activities tend to be. Use this information to exercise important skills in a way that is personal to them!
⭐️Example: send an email, have them respond & then make edits collaboratively.

If someone is having difficulties with selective attention, you should look at simulating an environment similar to one they’d struggle in- in the safety of your office/work-space.
⭐️Example: have them read a document with music or noise playing in the background, ask them questions about what they read after.

To assist with memory deficits, we want to develop compensatory strategies for our patients to use in their everyday life.
⭐️Example: use a physical planner or a calendar/reminder system on their phones to organize/schedule things more efficiently.

Here are 5 tips to improve your child’s communication abilities:

1. Offer choices

Offering choices supports your child’s communication by allowing them to interact and use words or signs.

It is an added bonus if you can make the choices visual by showing your child two options as you name each one.

2. Naming target words

During daily routines or play, you can name target words so that your child hears these words often.

3. Make comments

Comment on what your child is doing, playing with, or looking at. You will want to use short phrases and repeat target words while talking about the object or activity.

4. Use gestures or signs

Many children may begin to gesture or use signs before saying words. You can use gestures or signs when you name something or do an action.

Try saying the word at the same time as the gesture or sign to help build your child’s language abilities.

5. Repetition

Repeat target words during your daily routines and play to help your child recognize and associate that word with a the routine or an object.

This exercise is a great rotation stretch for opening up your hips, back, and chest. Start by lying on one side with your knees bent. Reach your top hand forward, then up and over until you are reaching toward the wall behind you. Remember to turn your head with this movement if able. Relax when you reach the final position and hold this position for 15-30 seconds. Repeat 5 times on each side, 1-2 times per day.

The Pallof Press is a popular core-strengthening exercise that is often used in fitness and sports training. It's named after physical therapist, John Pallof.
