PRACTICE. Whatever you are repeatedly doing is... practice. And while practice doesn’t in and of itself — make perfect; it does build neurological patterning. Sometimes we fall into a practice merely out of unconscious habit. Practice makes certain things easier — and when it gets easy to do things that have a negative impact on our lives, it’s important that we give ourselves permission — and maybe a little tough love — to create new, more beneficial, empowering, and enriching practices. An over-arching practice in my life is to pay better attention to the small things that make life more interesting, beautiful, fulfilling, and joyful. I might look distracted in this photo series but looking/feeling deeper is just one of the bridges between my yoga practice and my art practice. What are you practicing?

Prep, mix, match.... super simple... chop & roasted butternut, beets, carrots. Shallots & kale sautés in Apple cider vinegar. Wild rice & black lentils simply boiled. Grapefruit and orange segments with juice reserved for dressing. Pomegranate seeds and chopped nuts. Salt, chili & balsamic for seasoning.

Turned my market funds into something easy and delicious tonight. I made it with pasta tonight but was thinking this would be super delicious over coconut rice. Seems rare for a veg head like me to not like eggplant. While I’m not a fan of the texture of the large ones, I can’t resist the baby ones when I find them. So pretty and tasty. Quick & easy veggie sauté with simple basil sauce... just blended water, basil, pepper, salt, and a little oil.

Pigeon lovers - it’s your week! My regular students know I have mixed feelings about pigeon. On one hand it can really put the SI-joints at risk, and for some the knees too, but let’s be honest, when done with good technique it feels so good. We’re working deep into the watery realm of hips, pelvis, and low-back. As mentioned yesterday, this part of our body is very dynamic in nature. With the right balance of stability and mobility we are able to stand steady and move freely as we choose. And so what about in life? Where might you benefit from grounding stronger? And where might you benefit learning to bend - or adapt - a little more. With so much uncertainty, I kind of feel like an astronaut in space, nothing is buckled down, everything is up in the air and I feel held in some strange orbit. Feel me? My normal feeling of being a little “lost” & “out of place” is on hyper-drive right now. The issue for me is that I’ve never been a follower and I’m not really interested in being a leader - though I tend to find myself in that role. What I showed up to share here today is that I know for many of us we are waiting for the ground to fall out again... but maybe the truth is we’ve already blasted off into the next phase of reality. It’s been a good 5 months of altered reality (well maybe 3.5 years for some of us;-). And maybe you still need to rest, or get more clear, or like me, it’s time to face the resistance, perhaps some fear too, of moving forward and actually leaving the past behind. I’ve been feeling stuck in the global negativity recently and so I’m meeting the resistance of living a joyful & empowered life even when then are a lot of sh*tty things happening in it. What matters? What seeds of intention do you want to plant? What feelings and experiences do you want to contribute to? What do you want to cultivate, nurture, grow? These are important questions & actions. I’ve had to let a lot of my personal goals go recently in order to support my family and our yoga studio. I’ve had to rework everything I do for the studio and my immersion/training program and I’ve had to do it all while mothering in a whole new way too. I can’t stop doing all those things but there are places I can pull back and refocus. Meeting the resistance in the stuck places, breathing in to it, stepping back to get a bigger view, and then working through the maze of resistance with diligence & as much grace as I can muster. I’ve been very absent from my more personal vocation in order to focus on the studio and so I’m now making the commitment to be a little better at sharing my time with the multitude of things that matter to me. Being a force for conscious & healthy living, positive engagement, the cultivation of harmony, & staying rooted in the power of love are high.

It’s been awhile since I shared a food post. Been in survival mode since March 11. Thank goodness my husband cooks too! Sorry if I owe you anything work related but I had to detach today. I took my first chill day in months and months. Whew! So on a day where I wanted something tasty but didn’t want to work for it. This familiar meal is quick and easy and delicious. Stir fry veggies. Cook rice noodles. Sauce: peanut butter, sesame oil, rice wine vinegar, soy sauce, siracha. Top with peanuts & cilantro.
