Tara is a pet therapy volunteer who partners with her Boston Terrier, Piper, to bring comfort and connection wherever they go. As a registered team with the Alliance of Therapy Dogs, they visit hospitals, schools, and are part of the LAX PUPs program at Los Angeles International Airport, helping to ease the stress of travel with a friendly face and a wagging tail.

Tara enjoys finding purpose through service, and working with Piper has helped her connect more deeply—with herself and others. Together, they’re on a mission to make a difference, one visit at a time.

When I stopped comparing, I saw a path forward ... It's not only my story, but also Kim's.

Retirement is often portrayed as a distant dream for many teachers, especially those nearing the finish line while still wanting to support family.

As a dedicated educator, Kim spent years pouring her heart into her students and navigating the daily challenges of teaching. Yet amidst her passion for education, she faced a tough reality: the responsibilities and stress of teaching and the pull from aging parents. Rather than putting off her retirement dreams, she decided to take action.

The first step Kim took was evaluating her current financial situation. With the help of a financial advisor, she assessed her savings, retirement accounts, and potential income sources. By creating a clear understanding of her finances, she was able to devise a concrete plan for early retirement—a pivotal moment that set her on her path.

With her goals in mind, Kim adjusted her budget and made conscious choices to save more. Each small step added up, and she saw her savings grow steadily over time.

With careful planning and determination, Kimberly was able to retire and enjoy life beyond the classroom. She now spends quality time with family, travels, and pursues passions that had long been sidelined.

If you visited our home in Claremont, CA, you knew our corgis Bear and Jamie. After moving across the country and settling in, it seemed time to add a little one to the mix.

Meet Bella! She is 5 months old, crate trained and SUPER smart! My love had built raised garden beds for me and surrounded them with fencing to keep the deer out. Bella thinks the space is JUST for her to do her zoomies!

Full of energy first thing in the morning, I found I needed to shift my morning expectations a bit. In the past it would have been filled with stress and frustration. Using the Ten Second Solution for stress gave me lots of options to see things through productive for all eyes. Yes! We're giggling and having fun!

The unrelenting stress and guilt of “not doing enough” lingered with me for far too long. As a classroom teacher, I’d rush out of school, squeeze in an errand, wolf down dinner, and then scramble to finish lesson plans before tossing and turning in bed. Mornings only added to the chaos—short with family, anxious, and battling indigestion. Did I remember to…?

It was through this classroom-induced PTSD that I discovered facing my stress demons head-on wasn’t just courageous; it unlocked emotional freedom and allowed me to set gentle boundaries.

Could boundaries be the secret to better results at home?

Meet Sue, a dedicated teacher and busy mom who believed she had to do it all—until she discovered the power of boundaries. 😅 Juggling lesson plans, grading, family obligations, and social commitments had left her feeling depleted and overwhelmed. She was constantly living in a state of stress, convinced that saying “yes” to everything was the only way to be a good teacher and a great mom.

But the reality? It only led to burnout and resentment. After reaching a breaking point, Sue knew that something had to change. It was time to reclaim her time and energy by setting clear boundaries at home and in her professional life.

Here’s how boundaries transformed Sue’s life:

By recognizing that she couldn’t do it all, Sue started prioritizing tasks based on what truly mattered—both at home and in the classroom. Instead of trying to juggle every request, she created a list of "must-dos" and focused her energy on those items. This shift allowed her to be more present for her family while still delivering quality education to her students.

Just say 'no':

Feeling less than enough? Here’s what happened when I stopped comparing myself to others.

Then: I was constantly caught in the cycle of comparison, scrolling through social media and seeing my peers’ successes. Each post felt like a reminder of what I hadn’t accomplished, leading to feelings of inadequacy and self-doubt. I was a busy teacher nearing retirement, yet I felt lost, unfulfilled, and perpetually behind. 😟 It was exhausting.

NOW: I’ve learned the incredible impact of focusing on my own journey instead of measuring myself against others. By stopping the comparison game, I've decreased stress, and opened up space for self-acceptance, celebration, and personal growth! 🎉

Here are a few key changes I made that transformed my perspective:

1. Redirecting Focus:
Rather than looking outward, I shifted my focus inward. I started to reflect on my unique strengths, experiences, and accomplishments. Each small win became an opportunity for celebration, reminding me of the progress I’ve made on my own path.

2. Life GPS:
In moments where I felt the urge to compare, I turned to gratitude. I began a daily Life GPS before each dy. It feeds my mind how I want to show up. This simple practice helped me cultivate a mindset of abundance rather than scarcity.

Surrounding Myself with Positivity:
I made a conscious effort to surround myself with people who lift me up. I sought out relationships that encouraged positivity and growth rather than competition. This supportive environment has helped me stay motivated and reminds me that everyone’s journey is different.

**5. Embracing My Own Timeline:**
I realized that there’s no “right” timeline for success. Each path is unique, and that’s what makes life beautiful! Embracing my own timeline allows me to appreciate where I am in my journey without the pressure to keep up with others.

Now, I approach each day with self-compassion and an open heart! I’ve learned that the only person I need to compete with is myself. Taking this step toward self-acceptance has granted me the freedom to flourish and enjoy my journey as I prepare for retirement.

Letting go of comparisons has not only changed how I view myself but also how I appreciate those around me. We’re all in this together, and by uplifting one another, we can create a community of support and encouragement!

Feeling discombobulated? Here’s how I’m learning to stay on track with my stress relief tools!

Discombobulated! That’s the perfect word to describe how I often feel juggling the demands of teaching while preparing for retirement. With so much on my plate, I sometimes worry about not using my stress relief tools consistently. But here’s what I’m discovering: it’s not about being perfect; it’s about being 1% better each day. 🌱

When life gets hectic, it’s easy to let our self-care routines slide, but I’ve learned that staying focused on small, manageable steps can help me regain my balance. Here’s how I’m working to integrate stress relief into my busy life, even when everything feels overwhelming:

🔎Set Clear Intentions:
Start each day by setting an intention about which stress relief tool you want to focus on that day. It could be something simple like taking a 10-minute walk to clear your mind or practicing deep breathing exercises during your prep period. By narrowing your focus to one actionable step, you create an opportunity for growth without feeling pressured.

📆2. Create a Routine:
Establishing a routine can give you a framework for incorporating your stress relief tools. Find specific times during your day, whether it’s during lunch or first thing in the morning, to fit in your practice. Consistency will help these tools become ingrained habits rather than tasks you force yourself to remember.

🎉3. Celebrate Small Wins:
Acknowledge every time you engage with a stress relief tool, no matter how small the action. Did you take that walk? Did you remember to practice deep breathing? Give yourself credit! Each small step adds up and reinforces your commitment to personal growth. It also reinforces what you are working on!

By focusing on incremental progress, we empower ourselves to *cultivate* a sense of balance and well-being, especially during times of stress. Remember, it’s not about achieving perfection—it's about making small, intentional changes that lead to lasting growth.
