For many children, RSV looks like a common cold. But for newborns and young infants, it can sometimes lead to serious respiratory complications.

Because RSV is a virus, there isn’t a treatment once a child is infected, which is why prevention is so important. Simple steps like frequent handwashing and avoiding contact with sick people help, and we’re fortunate to have effective immunization options available for our youngest patients.

One of these options is Beyfortus™, a single-dose immunization that can provide up to six months of protection. We recommend this for babies up to 8 months old who are entering their first RSV and flu season. It can be given as early as the newborn period.

Beyfortus™ is not given outside of RSV season, and it is also not needed for newborns whose mothers received the RSV vaccine during pregnancy.

Similar to the flu shot, this immunization helps reduce the risk of serious RSV complications, including hospitalization and respiratory failure.

We do offer Beyfortus™ at Premier Pediatrics. If you have questions or would like to schedule, give us a call. We’re happy to help!

We hear parent concerns about illness exposure for healthy children, which is why we offer a separate well waiting area for patients without symptoms of illness!
