Take some time to stop and smell the roses—literally. National Sense of Smell Day on the last Saturday in April is for celebrating one of the five senses and appreciating the many scents our noses can pick up and enjoy.
The importance of the sense of smell, plays in every day of our lives. It also plays a role as an early warning system, triggers memories, and interacts with our other senses. Scent cells renew every 30-60 days and are the only sense nerve cells that can regenerate. Those scent cells allow us to recognize smells from childhood and trigger memories. It’s also the only sense directly connected to the brain where all those memories are stored.
