Merry Christmas from Healthy Touch Heals ✨

On this holy day, we remember the mystical heart of Jesus Christ, a teacher of compassion, presence, and healing love. Many stories tell of him laying hands on the sick, restoring not only bodies, but dignity, belonging, and hope. His touch was never rushed or forceful; it was reverent, and rooted in love.

At Healthy Touch Heals, I honor this ancient lineage of healing through hands—where touch is prayerful, intentional, and guided by deep listening. May this season remind us that healing is not something we do to one another, but something that unfolds when we meet each other with tenderness and care.

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT 📣

Licensed Massage Therapists should NOT be referred to as masseuses.

I have corrected individuals for over 30 years who have used this term or referred to my massage table as a bed, as these words carry sexualized connotations that put licensed professionals at risk emotionally, professionally, and physically.
We are trained professionals, licensed by the state, formally educated in anatomy, physiology, and pathology, and are required to complete continuing education each year to maintain our license.
We adhere to strict ethical, professional, and legal standards and work alongside chiropractors, physical therapists, and medical providers. We assess, treat, and document pain, dysfunction, trauma, stress, and recovery, not fantasies.
Using the term "masseuse" Is outdated and perpetuates stereotypes, undermines our credibility, and invites inappropriate behavior, ultimately impacting safety within treatment rooms.
When booking an appointment, referring a friend, or discussing our profession, it is essential to use the correct term: Massage Therapist.
This title reflects our education, and commitment to providing professional services. Using respectful language acknowledges our legitimacy and promotes a safe environment.
Intent does not negate impact, and ignorance is not an excuse. Our profession demands skill, education, boundaries, and respect.

THE SCIENCE OF TOUCH 💆🏽‍♀️

Healthy touch does more than feel good — it activates powerful biological systems that help the body heal. Research shows that therapeutic touch stimulates the parasympathetic nervous system, lowering heart rate, blood pressure, and cortisol levels. This shift from “fight-or-flight” to “rest-and-repair” allows tissues to recover more efficiently.
Touch also triggers the release of oxytocin, a hormone linked to trust, emotional regulation, and reduced pain perception. At the same time, it enhances vagus nerve activity, improving immune function and reducing inflammation. Even brief, supportive touch (like a hug) can increase serotonin and dopamine, the body’s natural mood stabilizers.
From improved immune resilience to faster recovery and reduced stress, healthy touch is a simple yet profound biological tool for healing — one that the body is scientifically wired to respond to.

Today marks 30 years as a Massage Therapist with a license to touch. It does not feel like that long!!! My Mom told me to find a career that felt like more of a purpose instead of feeling like work.
I continue to be in awe of the mind, body, spirit connection that heals us.
