Hello, my lovely friends! It's been a long time since I've posted any updates on here, and there are several reasons for it. The biggest one is my frustration with navigating what Facebook has become. Most of my direct messages now come from scammers and junk/ spam. I get constant notifications from this account, all of which turned out to be Facebook just trying to get me to engage with the platform by telling me that random other people have posted something. After awhile, I stopped checking because the notifications were ridiculous.

Another reason that I hesitate to post anymore is that every piece of art shared online is now at risk of being fed into AI for the purpose of stealing human art to "create" its own images. That part is especially frustrating because I'd love to share my art with a bigger audience but I feel constantly conflicted about it.

My husband and I recently moved to another state, and I'm looking forward to building up a body of work to be able to sell my art at a local gallery. That also means that my commissions are still remaining closed for the time being. If you've ever inquired about new orders in the last year or two, I still have you on a waiting list, but I might reach back out to you if you haven't provided an email address to use. I am planning to delete this artwork page within the next year. I will still keep my Instagram for now but the page will be phased out. Please instead follow my Instagram page and take note of my email address: nancywellsdesigner@gmail.com.

Meanwhile, I hope you have a wonderful holiday season. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!

Hi, friends! I've been getting inquiries about artwork orders for the holidays, which I answered individually, but I'd like to also make a broader post about it. I have made the tough decision to continue to keep commissions closed through the end of 2023.

I believe this choice is important to allow space for my own creative projects and also essential for my mental health. As much as I love doing the pet portraits and ornaments, it also takes a great deal of my time. Christmas is my favorite time of year, and with everything else I have going on right now, I want to make sure I am giving myself time off to rest and to appreciate the magic of the holidays. I intend to accept some commission work in 2024 on a small scale. I won't know a time frame yet, but you are welcome as always to reach out to me by DM or by email, and I will add to you my waiting list. Thank you so much for understanding, and I hope you all have a wonderful holiday season!! xoxo

This is my dream journal. I have a lot of vivid dreams and I believe that recording them and trying to interpret them can lead to deeper insight about ourselves. I have always been fascinated by dreams. I am pretty good about recording my dreams, but I’m not very good at using this journal to do it. The purpose of the journal is so that I can also capture some of the visual information. But it’s time-consuming to write by hand and to draw the pictures, so I often default to the easier route of typing them. As a result, this dream journal dates back to 2001, so it contains 22 years of dreams.

I don’t know for certain what dreams really are. On the surface, I think our brains are trying to make sense of things in our lives, and use symbolic imagery to send us messages and search for resolve. On a deeper level, I often wonder if dreams are also a window to other versions of us from past lives or parallel universes. In flipping through this book of decades of dreams, I can see patterns. For example, I have a lot of dreams where I have an open wound that doesn’t bleed and I struggle to repair it or cover it up. I have a lot of dreams involving teeth being loose or falling out. And at 42 years old, I still have dreams about not being able to find my class at school or missing a credit or test that will keep me from graduating. Do you remember your dreams when you wake up?

pages 1 and 2 of the sketchbook are complete. I did the 2nd page all in one sitting and ended up having to ice my hand afterward. I was feeling determined. Looking forward to randomly doodling and playing around more very soon 🎨

Here is a fun two-part commission that I did a year apart. The first slide is the final portrait order that I completed for this season. A year ago, my friend first asked for a portrait of her dog, Lincoln dressed as Abraham Lincoln as a gift to her husband (second slide). This year for Christmas, she asked me to create a portrait of their dog, Georgie, dressed as Georgiana Darcy from Pride and Prejudice (first slide). So now, they have a set of portraits of their dogs dressed as the dogs’ namesakes (3rd slide). I got a kick out of doing these, and loved experimenting with a combination of wet and dry watercolor pencil. These are 8x10” portraits on archival paper.

Yesterday I started a sketchbook. It’s just for fun and only for myself. It doesn’t have to be perfect art or come with any expectations. It should be a place for free experimentation without worrying about the final outcome. I plan to be reaching for my sketchbook instead of my phone as much as possible. There is so much expectation around social media and scheduling posts and always trying to catch the latest algorithms. What I’ve realized is that I really don’t care. I like pretty pictures and sharing moments between each of you. That’s the whole reason I even have instagram. So when I think there is something pretty or thought-provoking to share with you, you might see a post from me. In the meantime, I hope 2023 is full of things to nurture our souls. ❤️❤️

"An artist is not just the eye that sees or the hand that manipulates the medium. Art is about our connection with humans, animals, and the earth; connecting with philosophies and the search for meaning. Art can come from the need to provoke thought in others or to make a statement. Art is felt inside and emoted outward. No hardships or tragedies can make someone less of an artist, and in fact can inspire a further need to express oneself through their art. An artist without their eyes or their limbs is still an artist, because the feeling of being an artist lives forever in our souls. The heart and mind of an artist will always see the beauty and tragedy of the world in a special way." -Nancy Wells Curtin

The holiday artwork orders are shipping out and wrapping up for the season! I'm working on my last order for Christmas this week, and the rest have been shipped as of today. Thanks to everyone for your support. Whether you placed an order this year, ordered from me in the past, or even just continue to admire, encourage, and share my art, I thank you. It means a lot to me that you choose to give your friends and family (and yourself!) the gift of my artwork. And I continue to be grateful for your patience as I've worked to get these orders out to you. This is a hobby that I do because I love it, so I've been working on these in my off hours between 2 jobs and 2 hurricanes this year.

At my house, we've finally got the outside decorations on the house as of yesterday, and we decorated the inside of the house last weekend. I feel like we're a little late this year getting all our decorations put out. Do you like to decorate for the holidays? My Fall and Winter has been really hectic. How about you? Does it seem like things are extra busy this year? I'm trying to constantly remind myself that between all the craziness, I need to pause and take time to appreciate the holiday season, because this time of year truly is my "happy place." 🥰

Good morning! We're in the home stretch of holiday orders!! Woohoo!! I am going to be hand-delivering a few in the coming weeks, and I will be shipping everything out by the USPS deadline to arrive by Christmas. Wow, the time has really flown this year. Between preparing for two hurricanes, busy months with my organizing company, and a rather large home renovation project, it's been a bit of a whirlwind this year. Thanks again for your patience, and for trusting me to capture these memories of your beloved pets. I have reached out to everyone individually who has outstanding orders, but if you have any other questions, please feel free to DM me or email me.

Thanks for your patience, everyone! As of today, I will start reaching back out to people who inquired about custom artwork orders. We are thankful to be safe after hurricane Ian, and I hope the same is true for all of you. Be well, and speak to you soon! xo
