You’ve wrapped up your weekend and your body still doesn't feel ready to hit the gym hard.

What should you do?

Surely you can't be a big wimp and take ANOTHER day off, can you?

How weak minded would you be to give into your body's internal cries for recovery?

The truth?

Weak minded is the person who goes in and drills their body to the ground in the name of "toughness".

You see, it's a lie you tell yourself so that you can avoid facing the truth about where true mental toughness comes from. Mental toughness comes from making tough decisions.

Did you know that your body works about 30% harder (from a caloric expenditure perspective) to slow your heart rate down than it does to speed your heart rate up?

That's right.

It is innately harder for human beings to slow down once we get started. That's because the ability to move with intensity is a survival mechanism.

It is the people in society who can make conscious decisions around the difference between "could" and "should" who become the leaders.

It is the people in society who consistently play the long game instead of the short game who become the winners, because they understand that to "win" is to simply stay in the infinite game as long as possible.

All of your energy is driving you into the gym. It has become the direction of momentum.

Slowing momentum is tough, especially if you are someone whom it took a lot of effort just to get started with the healthy habit of going to the gym at all. That's why taking time off will require mental toughness.

Because it's not really about the time off, is it?

It's about the ability to take enough time, and still go back.

Physical therapy is an amazing and valuable profession.

If you are an active person who has suffered from an injury, gone to physical therapy for it, gotten great results, and felt uneasy about going back to the same activities you were doing before you got hurt out of fear of reinjuring yourself, you are not alone.

The best physical therapists in the world will help their patients to re-acclimate into their active life.

They will put them in situations that mimic the life their patients wish to return to and assure safety in doing so.

Most physical therapy experiences are not like the one mentioned above.

And even in the best case scenario, the day that you were released of care was probably one of the most uncertain days of your life.

"What can I do?"
"How do I know if I'm pushing too much?"
"Can I lift that heavy?"
"Should I avoid contact?"
"How many days a week can I train?"
"When do I advance?"
and so many more questions flood in.

In the future, the answers to all of these questions will come from your coach, because the healthcare provider of the future IS the coach.

If you still have these questions today, we would be honored to be your coach.

Please comment below or shoot us a DM and let's get to work on your peace of mind, and durability of body.

Frustrated that your recovery isn't going as expected?

Forgive yourself.

The reason you are frustrated is because your expectations don't match your reality. Perhaps what you should be auditing is where you got your expectations from, not what your reality is.

Every injury is unique, and therefor, so is every recovery.

Even if you had the exact same diagnosis and procedure done as your friend did, you have different diets, different habits, different genetics, different lives...

You will have different recoveries.

This is exactly why all the programs we make are customized for YOU, specifically. This is why we spend the time asking in depth questions, conducting various assessments and most importantly asking YOU how you feel during each movement and session.

Let’s break some beliefs together...
•••
☝🏼You have a rotator cuff tear, that’s why your shoulder hurts:
•••
It may surprise you to learn that many of your friends who do not have shoulder pain, probably have rotator cuff tears too. It’s often not the tear that hurts but the compensation you develop to deal with the weakness when the tear originally occurred.
•••
How to fix it: Stop trying to strengthen a muscle that you think is weak, and identify patterns of weakness, strengthen those, the pain takes care of itself.
•••
🤘🏽You have biceps tendinitis, that’s why it hurts:
•••
We call this a garbage can diagnosis. It catches everything, gives you something to tell people to justify, and isn’t true. Many muscles insert where your biceps tendon is, they are often the culprit, the biceps gets the blame.
•••
What to do: Tempo Tempo Tempo. Tendons (whichever they are) love tempo. 3:0:4:0. RPE8, 15 reps, 3 sets, 2x/week. Pain must not exceed 5/10.
•••
🤟🏾Arthritis dude.
•••
Usually this indicates a change in the shape of your joint. It hurts to move through various positions. You don’t have to be in pain.
•••
What to do: Identify ranges of motion you have. Strengthen them. Identify ranges of motion you don’t have, spend time, uncomfortable, in your end range (10 minutes/day).
