I used to think I had zero discipline, but really I have a different kind...
To me, discipline isn’t following a structure that is externally set.
The only discipline that matters is
The discipline to be your own authority.
How does this look?
With our body, it would look like understanding & respecting what does / doesn’t work well for your body.
Lactose intolerant? Watch the dairy.
Need 8 hours to function optimally? Prioritize your sleep.
With relationships, it could be having boundaries so we’re not enabling anything unhealthy.
With mental clarity, it could be calming impulsivity because it doesn’t work for you.
With emotions, it could be not blaming & projecting onto others.
With our spirit, it could be the discipline of awareness & trusting ourself.
Many of us get distracted with X amount of calories,
Y workouts a week with a perfect attendance to ____ &
We believe that is discipline.
While that works for a minority, it is not the true discipline that brings the best out of all of us.
1. Life is not static and therefore lifestyle has to be adaptable.
2. It doesn’t allow space for learning to trust & listen to our body, mind or spirit.
3. It’s what many burnt out High Performers rely on because a minority utilize this method successfully (sometimes it’s a lie).
This is why so many start and fail over & over again,
Working hard to convince themselves they’ll be more disciplined.
“If I do everything he/ she does, I’ll have the same success.”
False.
This is someone being disciplined about being another instead of taking the time & effort to be disciplined in the unique way they need to have true success.
Alignment looks, feels & provides different than High Performance.
It requires you to have intelligence about yourself, your unique system.
That takes courage, takes time, takes trust.
That is where all our discipline should be focused.
