🍝 Why That Bowl of Pasta Doesn’t Keep You Full
Ever finish a big plate of pasta or a bowl of cereal… and feel hungry again an hour later? Here’s why 👇
⚡ Quick climb: Refined carbs break down fast, sending your blood sugar soaring.
💉 Big response: Your body releases insulin to move that sugar into your cells.
⬇ Sudden drop: Glucose levels fall — sometimes even lower than before.
🚨 False alarm: Your brain thinks you need more fuel, even though you just ate.
Those spikes and crashes trick your body into craving more food — not because you’re hungry, but because your blood sugar is on a roller coaster. 🎢
💡 Pro tips:
- Try 1 Tbs Apple cider vinegar (diluted in 8 oz of water) before your starchy carbs
- Have a balanced meal - Pair carbs with protein, fiber, or healthy fats to stay fuller longer!
- Know your carb tolerance - understanding the portion of carbs that your body tolerates the best and prevent a big glucose spike is key. This can vary from person to person based on activity level, hormones, diagnosis like insulin resistance or PCOS. Some individuals will do better with 1/2 cup serving or less and some can tolerate more. A CGM can help you figure this carb tolerance piece.
- Aim to eat your carbs last, which can prevent as big of a blood sugar spike.
- Try swapping regular white pasta for some alternatives like Brami Lupini Bean Pasta, Spaghetti Squash, Hearts of Palm Pasta, Zucchini noodles etc
- If you have the regular pasta noodles with your meal, try and get in a walk or 10 mins+ of movement in after to help lower blood sugar levels naturally!
