From the "Golf and the Environment" department... 24K golf balls recovered from a drained golf course pond.

But there's a deeper meaning here, not only about winning in sports, but about achieving any goal.

Train yourself for success by being clear about your intention. Commit to it, and make a plan of action. Then, do it!

Perhaps most importantly, after taking action, you need to make an accurate analysis of the results. Avoid being overly sentimental or critical. Simply, what worked, and what didn't?

Find the things you're good at, and experience "winning" in those areas, even in small ways. Then, you can apply what you learn to your big goals or areas where you're not as naturally talented.

The genuine experience of winning, even in a small way, will teach you more about how to win than 100 books on the subject.

Movement is one of the keys to keeping the body young and strong. It probably has similar benefits for the mind.

So many of us bunch up our exercise into one trip to the gym our one daily walk, and that's good, but how about breaking up the day with short bursts of movement?

In the book, "Golf & Life" by Jack Nicklaus and Dr. John Tickell, they suggest taking movement breaks throughout the day. As someone who sits at a desk, I love this idea.

It's very similar to the 1-minute exercise concept proposed by Ilchi Lee and shared in the books "I've Decided to Live 120 Years" and "The 100-Year Golfer."

How about you? Right now, take three deep breaths, stretch your shoulders, back, or legs, and feel the difference.

Inevitably, we reach a point where our ability to play the game has peaked.

For some, the body simply can't do what it once did.

For others, the responsibilities and demands of life leave little time for practice.

When that moment comes, and you realize you'll never lower your handicap, don't worry. There's still much to be learned through golf.

Some might even say that's when the most important lesson begins...

Golf can't be conquered only with strength, speed, size, or agility. More than almost any other sports, it requires a mentality of optimism, trust, and consistency.

If you've based your sense of self-worth on things like recognition from others, winning competitions, or never failing, then you're creating a trap for yourself.

Loving and accepting yourself unconditionally provides a foundation for growth. It makes you resilient and more relaxed. It doesn't mean you'll lack motivation unless your motivation is external (in which case, you won't last long in the game).

So take a moment to smile and appreciate yourself before and after each round. It'll set you up for a lifetime of enjoyment with the game.
