Today, December 3rd, we proudly recognize International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD)! This day is more than an observance, it’s a worldwide commitment to champion the dignity, rights, and well-being of all people with disabilities.

Proclaimed by the UN in 1992, IDPD helps elevate the understanding of disability issues across health, social, and economic life. We stand with our community promoting the full and meaningful inclusion of every individual.

For CP State and our Affiliates, this commitment is what we live every day. Our mission is to advocate for over 100,000 individuals with intellectual & developmental disabilities (I/DD) right here in New York. We work to break down barriers and ensure equal opportunities for all by providing essential supports to our Affiliates, advocating, educating, and fighting for necessary legislation.

Happy Thanksgiving to the entire CP State family! 🦃

During this holiday week, we want to express our deep gratitude for our incredible Affiliates. Today marks the close of our campaign, where we had the privilege of highlighting one Affiliate each day and the powerful impact their programs have on the I/DD community.

While the series ends, our appreciation is year-round. Thank you for your unwavering passion and dedication to providing essential services. We are truly thankful for you!

Our gratitude campaign continues! Today, we celebrate UCP of Long Island, a dynamic affiliate working for over 75 years to advance independence and create a "Life Without Limits" for Long Islanders. We thank them for their dedication to accessible design and robust family programs.

UCP of Long Island ensures that accessibility is a core value, evident in their 30+ residential homes, their new adaptive kitchen space for adults, and the fully accessible playground at The Children’s Center. They also stand strong with families by offering comprehensive services like Service Coordination, various support groups, and unique respite options (including athletic and art respite).

Our gratitude campaign continues! Today, we send our heartfelt thanks to Pathfinder Village (Community for Down syndrome), an internationally renowned, open-access community in Edmeston, New York. Since its roots were established in 1922, Pathfinder Village has served as a model of inclusive community and lifelong learning.

We celebrate Pathfinder Village for creating a welcoming, pristine neighborhood where individuals with Down syndrome and other developmental disabilities discover their talents and gain profound independence. Their holistic commitment to lifelong learning shines through their specialized Pathfinder School, their innovative Otsego Academy (a two-year transitional program for young adults), and through vocational training opportunities at their on-site businesses.
