Central to our practice of mindfulness meditation - and mindfulness in life - is calming the mind so that it is less agitated, more stable & peaceful. When this begins to happen, we become naturally more reflective, develop more 'insight' and begin to see things more clearly. We see that so much in our lives is 'no big deal'. We begin to understand that our worries and regrets about the past (which we cannot change) help no-one. In the same way, 'catastrophizing' about life yet to come is a waste of energy. Literally we 'stop digging' those holes we dig for ourselves and start to see each day as a new life. Really living each day as if it were a new day all over again. This is why we continue our practice and deepen it where we can so that we know how to deal with those troubling thoughts that lead to unhelpful actions and reactions:))

So set your alarm for Wednesday morning or put a sticky note on the mirror and/or kettle or wherever to 'remember to remember' ? Whether you're a newcomer (welcome!), a regular or if you intended to join us but never found the time, or just came and went and never came back? Any time is a good time to (re)new or (re)discover your meditation and mindful living practice:))

Good afternoon everyone on a lovely day here in Drumoak:)) autumn is a great time to observe how everything changes isn't it? If we reflect more deeply on what that means for us in everyday life, we can see that, often, resisting change, wishing things were different, is often the cause of our negative emotions and suffering. When we can see that clearly and see also how our emotional 'self' reacts/responds to situations, we are truly on the path of mindfulness:))

Mindfulness Meditation & Mindful Living
in a Challenging World
Starting in November at a central location in Westhill
A short 4-week course on Saturday mornings from 9.00 am to 12.00 noon

better cope with worry, anxiety & ā€˜fear’ avoiding those moments of ā€˜panic’
develop a more positive, resilient & peaceful way of life?
build a lifelong practice as your own self-therapy?

Who are we? The Varapunya Meditation Centre is a Scottish Charity (SC043989) based at Kinmundy near Westhill, Aberdeenshire. In collaboration with the Scottish Government, NHS Grampian & others, from time to time, we provide teaching, guidance & practice in how to live life mindfully through the practice of mindful meditation.
When & where? Saturday mornings from 9.00am to 12.00 noon at a central Westhill location on the 9th, 16th, 23rd & 30th November 2024.
Who for?* This is suitable for anyone needing & ready to learn how to live a more peaceful & meaningful way of living life. Also, for those wanting to simply refresh existing mindfulness & meditation practice. You will be able to practice what we share with you anytime, anywhere and become your own lifelong self-therapist! We also provide links to other material that will support your practice.
What will I discover ?
we live our lives through our six senses & these drive our thoughts, speech & actions;
we learn habits of thinking & reacting to daily life situations from a very early age;
this ā€˜conditioning’ leads to often negative habits of thoughts, speech & reactions to situations in life that we seemingly can’t let go;
but we can learn more helpful ā€˜thinking habits’ & so more positive ways of responding helpfully to situations in life, better for ourselves & others;
we can use our precious breath & other meditation methods to take back control, developing awareness & insight, seeing more clearly how things really are!

You will learn simple, short daily practices to support & reinforce all that you have discovered. Once the basics are understood & accepted, you will be ready to develop a lifelong practice starting with perhaps just 5/10 minutes each day. This is a short course and so you should be prepared to attend all sessions. The course is free although, as a charity, a modest donation of your choice to support what we do is always welcome.

While we seek calmness and peacefulness for ourselves in our initial mindfulness practice, that really is not the end goal. In a sense that's the 'quick fix' part of it. With practice, we can then, with a new clarity, explore the mind itself and really see, from our own experiences, how it's 'my mind' that causes all that pain and suffering in my life. Of course we can't truly 'get' this if we don't first of all practice persistently, patiently and with perseverance! That really does mean developing a daily practice, formal and informal. We can even just start by simply noticing that everything around us is impermanent and changes all the time. Really 'getting' this and accepting that reality (not resisting it) is a great place to be:))

Mindful Living & Meditation Practice: NHS Health Village, Aberdeen on Monday 26th February at 12 noon and 1.00pm

Join NHS staff and members of the public (first time, returners and regulars) for guidance and authentic practice in Mindful Living & how Mindfulness Meditation practice helps us with our busy lives, anxiety, stress, worry and so on. Learn more about what Mindful Living/Meditation is and what it isn't. The first steps in starting the journey can simply involve a few minutes each day to begin with, building up over time until it becomes part of everyday life. Enjoy some 'refresher' practice too if you're simply coming back:))

Take some 'me' time out & learn to cope with the stresses of everyday life, make more conscious decisions in life & live with awareness in a more calm & peaceful way:))

Two regular sessions (every last Monday of each month) at 12.00 noon and 1.00pm in the Health Village at Frederick Street. Check at reception which room we are in, usually meeting/learning room 4 or 5 on the top floor but sometimes it's changed at short notice to the Carer's Area adjacent to Reception - after all, all things change:)) There's a car park right across the road too.
