2023 Spring Pest Update: Gypsy Moth Expected to Flourish Again

Your trees can be protected for up to two years with a simple injection treatment. While it won't stop the caterpillars from trying to feed on the leaves, one bite and they will soon die.

Good Morning Friends,

Initially I had stated I would not be able to deploy to help with Ian. As often is the case things fell into place in unexpected ways and I will be heading to Venice/Port Charlotte for the remainder of this month.

While in the landfall zone I will be working with Homeowners on their behalf, helping them to avoid being being taken advantage of by scammers, fly-by-night operators and even well-meaning, but unqualified tree-work providers. I will also be helping them sort out what 'Must' be done from the fluff and the outright unnecessary.

Please pass my name and contact information around to anyone you know in the Port Charlotte/Venice/Ft. Myers area who is feeling overwhelmed with tree issues from the storm and I'll be happy to see what I can do to help.

Thanks,

Richard Wood

Though they now call it the Spongy Moth, to many folks it has always been the Gypsy Moth.

No matter what you call them, they had a banner year last year and there is no indication this year won't be another good year for them.

They have already started hatching and are climbing all over the place, rapidly becoming a nuisance. They are now in search of the perfect buffet, Your Trees!

While we cannot get rid of them completely, we can do a lot to slow them down and stop them from significantly harming your trees.

Contact Trees Vermont Today to find out how you can protect your trees!

Here's a good discussion of another invasive pest that is having a boom: The Lymantria dispar caterpillar, formerly known as the larvae of the Gypsy. Moth.

While we have no viable means of removing them, keeping them from hatching, or even keeping them from attacking your trees we can treat your trees so that the little critters won't eat nearly as much and certainly won't be able to grow into adult moths!

Give is a shout to see how we can help you protect your trees from the dreaded Lymantria dispar!

Entomophaga fungus keeps Lymantria dispar, formerly gypsy moth, populations in check with spring rainfall.
