Mary Eatter Doolittle-Sanders

After a long life filled with love, wisdom, and cherished memories, we gather to celebrate the life of Mary Eatter Doolittle Sanders. Her journey through the years touched countless hearts, leaving behind a legacy of strength. While her passing marks the end of an era, her spirit, and the stories she shared will live on in all who knew her.

On Friday, January 16, at approximately 3:15 A.M., Mary answered the Master’s call. Now she rests with the other saints who have gone before her. Mary was born on June 16, 1937, to the late Henry Brown Doolittle and Rosie Herrod Doolittle in Calhoun County, MS.

She professed a hope in Jesus Christ at an early age and joined Jackson Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, where she was a faithful member until her health declined. She actively served in the hospitality and Usher ministries. Her belief in God’s word and her strong spirit left an impression on everyone who knew her.

In her formative years, she worked as a factory worker, where she formed many meaningful friendships that lasted throughout her life. Her warm personality, strong work ethic, keen sense of humor, and willingness to lend a helping hand made her a valued co-worker among her peers.

Mary united in holy matrimony with Britten Sanders. To this Union two girls were born. She was a mother who dedicated her life to her daughters, a proud and doting grandmother who cherished her granddaughter and great granddaughter, a loving sister, aunt, and friend. She especially appreciated a loving and enduring relationship with her loyal and supportive son-in-law, David Cobb. Her witt, wisdom, and steadfast spirit were a source of strength and inspiration to her family.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Henry Brown Doolittle, and Rosie Herrod Doolittle; Daughter, Gloria Sanders-Cobb, sister, Janie, and brothers, Eugene and Sammy Doolittle.

Mary found great comfort in the Psalms, Psalm 23 was an anchor for her as she fought the good fight with unwavering strength and grace, leaving behind a legacy of faith, resilience and determination that will inspire generations to come. Memories of Mary will be treasured forever by her daughter, Rose Doolittle Brown, Granddaughter and Caregiver, Naeka Cobb-Holmes, and adored Great Granddaughter, Daijah Holmes. Cherished niece, Linda Doolittle McClora, whom she lovingly reared from mid-adolescence to adulthood. And, her beloved and devoted niece, Patti Lynn Doolittle. Edna Ruth Harris was born on February 28, 1954, in Chunky, Mississippi, to the late Earlie and Effie McClellan. She gained her wings on January 11, 2026, at the age of 71. Edna was blessed to be in the presence of her children as they took their first breath and as she took her last breath.

She was a faithful member of Friendship Baptist Church. Edna spent her early years in Chunky, Mississippi, before moving to Hickory, Mississippi, where she attended Harris High School graduation in the Class of 1973.

After high school, she began her life in the workforce, beginning with a career at Newton Company, where she dedicated many years of faithful service. She later worked at Newton Elementary School and eventually transitioned to Alliance Health Center, where she remained employed for several years until her retirement. After retiring, Edna continued doing housekeeping work until her health began to decline.

Above all, Edna cherished time with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and her family and friends. She found joy in cooking—especially her beloved chicken spaghetti—and in gardening, taking great pride in caring for her yard. Edna loved beautiful weather and treasured the simple peace of spending time outdoors.

Edna was the loving mother of three children and she leaves to cherish her memory: two sons, Christopher (Sylvia) McClelland of Milwaukee, WI, Carlos (Felicia) Harris of Bay City, MI; one daughter, Canishia Harris of Meridian, MS; two brothers, Clarence and Bud McClellan of Milwaukee, WI; three sisters, Mary McClellan, Faye Shaw of Hickory, MS, and Mattie Jordan of Meridian MS; and her loving grandchildren, Dominique, Martez, Devonta, Christopher, Jeron, Darion, Jarrod, Quinn, Tierra, Carlos Jr., and Jamario; and 14 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Earlie and Effie McClellan; her brothers, Charles, BJ, and Eugene; and her sisters, Minnie, Shirley and Molly.

Edna Ruth Harris has gained her wings.
