Congress has announced a bipartisan agreement to provide a $100 million increase for Alzheimer's and dementia research at the National Institutes of Health, along with $41.5 million for implementation of the BOLD Infrastructure for Alzheimer's Act at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in fiscal year 2026. When signed into law, this legislation will bring total annual federal dementia research funding to $3.9 billion — accelerating progress against dementia for all communities nationwide.

The agreement shows that Congress continues to recognize Alzheimer’s as a bipartisan priority and a growing public health crisis, with increased funding at the NIH and CDC.

When dementia symptoms change suddenly, it may not always be “just dementia.”

In individuals living with Alzheimer’s or other forms of dementia, a urinary tract infection (UTI) may show up as confusion, agitation, withdrawal, or sudden behavior changes, often without typical symptoms like pain or burning.

We recently shared an educational article to help families understand:

✔️ Why UTIs are more common in dementia
✔️ How symptoms can look different
✔️ Why early awareness matters in home care

This information is for education only and does not replace medical care, but awareness can help families know when to reach out to a healthcare provider.
