I did it! I finished all twelve blocks from the sew along! The last two I completed are on the second page and that rainbow 🌈 had soooo many little pieces!! I learned a some new skills and am really proud of myself to have kept on track and made it through to the end. My favorites are the two in the middle, the pineapple and hexagon pineapple šŸ. I’m leaning towards framing them individually and hanging them in my sewing room but haven’t made a final decision. On to the next project!!😁

Week 7, blocks 9 and 10. Only 1 week and 2 blocks left to go until this sew along is complete! I still@have no idea what I’m going to do with them when I’m done. If you have any brilliant ideas let me know I’m the comments. I am definitely open to suggestions 😊Have a wonderful weekend friends!

starts today. Continuing my quest to finish partially completed projects, I enjoyed hand appliquĆ©ing these leaves. After that I needed to add some tiny yo-yos and a bit of embroidery to this quilt block to complete it. I used to do a fair amount of hand sewing 🧵 and embroidery and remembered how much I enjoyed it and how out of practice I am. šŸ˜† So for the next 100 days I’m committed to spend at least a few minutes every day doing some hand work. Won’t be posting every day but I’ll update occasionally. Back to watching some Ice Dancing and stitching for me. 😁

I made it to the quilt shop and found some fabric for the background that I like MUCH better! The color isn’t showing up 100% correctly in this photo, it’s a bit more green/turquoise mottled than it looks here but oh well. šŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļø I’ve sewn the center to the background, cut out the fabric behind it and removed all the paper pieces. Kind of tedious work but worth it 😊 Now to decide on backing and quilting šŸ¤” batikfabric

After some long months of house buying, selling, new home renovations 😱, and unpacking I’m finally getting back to working on some fun projects again! I started this quilt last January but didn’t get much past cutting out all the pieces. I’m determined to finish it this year along with a couple of other half done projects. The plus side of moving was rediscovering some of these things I’d forgotten about. Today I’m having fun staying warm on an unusually cold and blustery day here in College Station.

Liberty hexie quilt is coming right along. My goal is to complete one full row every day. I’m usually able to get it done but when I can’t, I try to make up the missed row within the next couple of days. So far I’m actually a couple of rows ahead so things are moving right along .šŸ˜€

It’s a cold and gloomy day here but it’s warm and cheery in my sewing room. 🧵 I’m back at work on yet another hexie quilt using my stash of Liberty of London fabrics. They are a dream to work with, the cotton lawn is so smooth and silky. The colors are rich and the prints are just beautiful. I’m having a lovely afternoon. I hope you are too. ā˜€ļø

I’m at it again! Glue basting hexies for another quilt. I’ve had a Liberty of London fabric subscription for a couple of years and FINALLY have collected enough fabric to make a quilt!!! I absolutely love all of these prints so it’s going to be kind of a scrappy look but the design may evolve into something a bit more organized once I have all the hexies basted and I can start laying them out. Who knows? This fabric just feels so wonderfully soft and smooth. It’s truly a joy to work with. šŸ˜ I’m going to piece this one together by machine and I haven’t forgotten I promised to post a video showing how I do that! I just haven’t gotten around to it yet. šŸ˜‰

Watching some college football, Gig ā€˜em Aggies, and crafting. We don’t normally have many, or any, trick or treaters at our house. The lots are big in my neighborhood and there are no streetlights so our neighborhood kids tend to go elsewhere where they can haul in more candy. I’m not sure how Halloween is going to work out this year anyway so I’m putting together some candy bags for our girls (no boys around us) and making some bows and clips to pop in there with the candy. Not a bad way to spend the afternoon. My husband and I took a long hike this morning so I’m feeling very well rounded today. I hope you’re having a great Saturday.

Hello friends! I know it’s been awhile. I took a little break and made the drive out to California to visit my daughter and her family. šŸŽ‰ It’s so hard to be separated from our loved ones and this virus only makes it harder. Anyway..... these are the tools I use to remove the paper from the back of the hexagons in my quilt. I’ve got my own little technique where I pierce the paper in the middle then tear it out towards the corners, next I fold the torn pieces back along the seam lines and rip them out. The idea is to get as much of the paper out- especially in the corners- as you can in big chunks. The bits that are left behind I remove with tweezers which can be a bit tedious. I also try to snip any loose threads as I go. I removed all the papers except those along the outside edges of my four sections then I sewed the sections together to make one big quilt. After it’s all sewn together I remove the paper from the edges then it’s on to the next steps to get ready for quilting!!! A number of you were very interested in exactly how I do the piecing so this week I’ll try to shoot a little video so you can see the piecing at my machine. Hit me up if you’ve got any questions.

The four quadrants of the quilt are completed and I’m very happy with the way everything looks. My next task is to remove all the papers from the back except for those on the interior rows where the quadrants will be sewn together. I can’t keep all the papers in because it makes the sections too bulky to fit in my sewing machine when piecing them together but I need to keep the paper in those particular rows to provide the necessary stability that to sew them together neatly. It’s definitely not my favorite part of making the quilt. Time to find a good movie to watch... or maybe a couple.... or three 😜

The quilt is coming along. I’m working on the top and bottom halves separately so I don’t have to handle such large pieces. When I was piecing another hexagon quilt I came up with the idea to roll up the area coming out of the machine and use a couple of clothespins to hold that rolled up area. It works pretty well for me.
