🎢 Who remembers the Zippin Pippin? It was Elvis Presley's favorite roller coaster, and most of Memphis shared the same sentiment. The amusement park, Libertyland, closed in 2005, but the property was redeveloped in 2022 with the construction of Memphis Sports and Events Center. Volleyball and basketball leagues, a ninja course, and the Courtside Cafe have youth flocking to the grounds once again.

Freestanding emergency departments (FSEDs) are often located in rural or fast-growing areas with limited emergency care. With a small footprint, FSEDs are strategically designed to be flexible spaces, anticipating a variety of fluctuating demands. They have become a critical part of healthcare for underserved regions as they effectively treat patients, resulting in only 3%-6% of patients requiring transfer to an acute care facility.

ESA designs adaptable FSEDs through collaboration and by understanding the needs of staff, patients, and the community.

As the demand for emergency care is predicted to increase over the next decade, we anticipate seeing more of these facilities.
