Don’t overthink it—get it on paper.

It is imperative that you present yourself as a professional, when communicating to an office or business establishment via phone call ,text messages and/or email.

Please do not lead with "Hey"!
I highly recommend you use this example:
Hello my name is... I'm reaching out regarding ( what you need or following up on).

Refrain from "Hey" until AFTER, you have build a rapport with the person you are contacting.

I promise you the example given will take your information much further with that person than hey!

NETWORK — I’M ASKING FOR YOUR SUPPORT

I’m reaching out to my friends, family, and professional community to help my daughter secure an Architecture Internship for Fall 2026.
She is currently a Junior at University of North Carolina at Charlotte and will be entering her senior year this upcoming fall.

As many of you know, internships are not optional in this field—they are critical to gaining the required experience toward becoming a licensed Architect.

Here’s what I want you to understand—this is not about lack of effort or preparation.

She applied to the IPAL Program through UNCC in 2025 and successfully advanced to interviews with multiple firms.

She received strong feedback on her portfolio, resume, and professional presentation. However, due to firms scaling back internship availability and final placement decisions, she was not selected.

We encouraged her to seek feedback—and she did.
The feedback?
Not performance. Not capability.

She was told, due to firms scaling back that year, limited internship opening and she had more "experience" than other candidates at this stage.

Let that land.

My daughter has been intentionally preparing for this career path since 2nd grade.

She came into college with:
*Advanced design coursework from high school
*Experience with architectural software programs
*Shadowing experience with a firm
*A Summer 2024 internship opportunity through a licensed Architect (her high school teacher)

We believed that level of preparation would position her competitively. Instead, it created an unexpected barrier.

Here’s what I know as both a parent and a professional: Preparation should not disqualify opportunity. It should accelerate it.

She is driven, disciplined, and deeply committed to becoming a licensed Architect. She understands the responsibility of the profession and is ready to learn, contribute, and grow within a firm environment.

Now she needs access.

*Know of firms open to mentoring a high-performing student
