A Story from earlier days at Healing with Horses Zimbabwe...

A little girl came to us at almost 2 years old.
She had been kept alone, with almost no human contact, and was terrified of the world around her.
Her specialist diagnosis was autism spectrum disorder.

When she first arrived, everything felt unsafe. She couldn’t trust, couldn’t connect, and didn’t know kindness.

Her journey began very gently.

Sitting quietly. No pressure. Just time, patience, and the calm presence of our ponies and dogs.

For months, nothing much seemed to change… until one day, it did.

She reached out.
And soon after, for the first time, she smiled — not at a person, but at the ponies and dogs.

From there, trust slowly began to grow. Her world softened. She began to connect, to express herself, to feel safe. She learnt to ride a horse and pat a dog, which taught her acceptance and love.

And a wonderful thing happened. Her grandmother was found and through time a relationship grew. Today, she is living happily in the care of her grandmother — a completely different child to the one who first arrived.

So much love for our family, the McCoys and Pyle’s, for taking care of the farm chickens, goats, horses, dogs and cats, plus James mom, while James and I recovered from the worst flu ever…and during a historic snow and ice storm. 🤍🤍🤍
