"I felt so fortunate that there was a way that I could still parent him, delay it a bit longer so that I could become okay with laying him to rest," Lisa Marie writes in her posthumous memoir.

Located between two major Chicago cross streets, Clark & Irving Park, Graceland Cemetery is the final resting place to many prominent Chicago figures, including athletes, politicians, industrialists and many of the finest architects of the last century. Designed by visionary landscape architects, including O.C. Simonds, Graceland both serves as a glimpse into the past and a beautiful place for the future. Even with all of its 150 years of history, Graceland Cemetery is still an active cemetery and arboretum.

This is a rare example of a human burial from 15,000 years ago, also this is the earliest known (complete) homo sapien skeleton ever found. Evidence of burial suggests humans understood the difference between life and death. It shows they cared to dig a grave and position her body in a certain way. This amazing skeleton can be found at the Field Museum in Chicago, Illinois!

Working in Death Care..

I am so thankful to have been given the opportunity to educate people on end-of-life options and procedures. It has been so eye-opening and humbling. I’ve learned so much within the last few months, and the thirst to continue learning has yet to be quenched. I think the reason why I love it so much, is because of my dad.

Yesterday was the anniversary of the death of my father. He died suddenly and unexpectedly of a cardiac arrest 4 years ago. I didn’t get to say goodbye. By the time I flew in from Colorado, he was in an induced coma showing very little signs of brain activity. He was taken off of live support on November 28, 2015.

My father was my hero. He was the “strong and silent,” type, but a very sincere and sensitive core. He taught me the value of hard-work, honesty, and family. He instilled confidence in me and my ability to problem-solve. He was a shining constant in a world of unpredictability. I will forever miss him.

When I was approached with the option of working with The Springs Funeral Services, I immediately thought of dad. I questioned if I would be able to help people prepare for the topic they least enjoyed discussing. I questioned if I would be able to have the strength to look at someone in the eye and tell them that, “everything is going to be okay.” Then I remembered that confidence he gave me. I remember all the times he said that I was capable of doing anything I set my mind to.
