A heartfelt thank you to the partners, volunteers, and leaders who made these important improvements possible at Maryhaven.

Funding for Residential South was provided by Franklin County Government, with matching support from the City of Columbus to help advance work on Residential North, which is currently underway.

Additional funding was secured through the Ohio State Capital Budget, demonstrating the strength of collaboration across our community.

These upgrades are more than improvements to a building - they create safer, more welcoming spaces where healing can begin.

Updates include new ceiling tiles, modern LED lighting in hallways, group rooms, and bedrooms, fresh paint throughout the unit, new flooring and blinds, enhancements to the laundry room, and a new coffee bar station designed to encourage connection and comfort for clients.

A special thank you to Matt Donovan, Vice President of Facilities and Business Continuity, for his leadership in guiding these projects, along with Jeremy from our maintenance department and the many volunteers who contributed their time and expertise.

Community partnership makes this work possible. We are grateful to our grant providers, public partners, and dedicated team members for investing in spaces that support recovery and help restore lives.

With March Madness in full swing, the excitement around sports - and sports betting - is everywhere.

That’s why leaders like Abdullah and the team at Maryhaven are working every day to raise awareness and connect people to the resources they need.

A recent article from The Lantern is shining a light on a growing concern: the rise of sports betting and its impact on students - and why awareness and support matter now more than ever.

Since sports betting became legal in Ohio, calls to gambling helplines have more than doubled, with college-aged individuals among the fastest-growing groups seeking help.

Experts warn that easier access through mobile apps means harmful behaviors can escalate quickly, sometimes within weeks rather than years.

As Abdullah often reminds our community, when gambling is available at your fingertips, the risks can grow quickly - yet the opportunity to step in, seek help, and change course is just as real.

March is Problem Gambling Awareness Month, making this a critical time to stay informed, recognize warning signs, and know where to turn for support.

If you or someone you love may be struggling with gambling, help is available right now.

You have to see it through - from start to finish.

That’s the spirit behind Team Maryhaven on Saturday, April 25 in Columbus.

For team members like Jacob Williams, running is deeply personal - he’s doing it for his brother, the strongest person he knows.

For Mary Ann McCafferty, every mile is about giving others the strength to keep going, no matter how hard the journey may feel.

Their stories remind us that recovery, like a race, is about perseverance, community, and showing up for one another every step of the way.

Whether you choose to run, walk, volunteer, or sponsor, you can be part of something bigger - supporting recovery and helping individuals and families move forward, one step at a time.

We’re proud to partner with former Maryhaven as he shares his powerful story of recovery and lasting change through his new book, How a Little Becomes a Lot: The Art of Small Changes for a More Meaningful Life.

More than 30 years ago, Eric began his recovery journey at Maryhaven - a moment that now serves as the opening scene of his book.

What Maryhaven gave him then was something priceless: hope when there was none, and the belief that change was possible. Today, he’s paying that hope forward.

Through this partnership, Eric launched a Buy Two, Give One initiative - meaning books purchased through this campaign help place copies directly into the hands of individuals currently in recovery at Maryhaven.

His message is simple but powerful: real transformation doesn’t happen all at once. It happens little by little, one decision at a time.

March is Problem Gambling Awareness Month - a time to raise awareness, share resources, and remind people that help is always available.

Recently, Derek Longmeire, Executive Director of the Problem Gambling Network of Ohio, spoke during the Ohio Problem Gambling Conference, bringing together leaders from prevention, treatment, recovery, operations, and regulation to learn from one another and drive meaningful change across the state.

March often coincides with major sporting moments - from college basketball tournaments to the excitement following the Super Bowl- making it an important time to stay aware of the impact gambling can have and the resources available throughout Ohio.

If you or someone you love may be struggling with gambling, support is just a phone call away.

More than 30 years ago, Eric Zimmer began his recovery journey at Maryhaven - and the opening pages of his new book, How a Little Becomes a Lot: The Art of Small Changes for a More Meaningful Life, start right there.

“Maryhaven gave me something I didn’t have at the time - hope. It gave me the ability to believe that maybe I could do it, too.”

Today, Eric shares that same message with others through his work, his podcast The One You Feed, and now this powerful new book - a guide to creating lasting change through small, intentional steps.

Even more meaningful, Eric has launched a Buy Two, Give One initiative: for every two books purchased, one will be donated to Maryhaven, putting hope and encouragement directly into the hands of those currently in recovery.

It’s a full circle moment - and a reminder that sometimes the smallest steps can change everything.

Last Friday, Maryhaven welcomed back a very special guest - former client Eric Zimmer.

Eric visited Maryhaven to read from his new book, How a Little Becomes a Lot: The Art of Small Changes for a More Meaningful Life, share his story of recovery, and spend time connecting with current clients on their own journeys toward healing.

Signed copies of the book were also gifted to clients, creating a meaningful moment of encouragement and inspiration.

More than 30 years ago, Eric came to Maryhaven while struggling with he**in addiction, homelessness, and the possibility of prison.

Today, he celebrates 25 years of recovery, is the host of the podcast The One You Feed, and is preparing for the launch of his book on March 31 - a guide to lasting change built on one powerful idea: little by little, a little becomes a lot.

His visit was a powerful reminder that recovery is possible and that hope and healing can grow from even the smallest steps forward.

Thank you, Eric, for returning to where part of your journey began and for sharing your story with the Maryhaven community.
