He had a identical twin brother that didnt make it.He was 4 lb 12 oz when I was able to take him home at 5 months My teenage daughter also diagnosed with FTT and now my lil boy is now 6 yrs old, and weighs 27.5 lbs.(he has lost weight again) He eats like all the time. Maybe not a lot at a time but he does eat. He just does not gain weight. He was only 2 lbs when he was born (a micro preemie)(will insert pic). He had a identical twin brother that didn't make it . My lil boy was in the hospital for 5 months after being born. He had to have help with breathing, learning to eat, swallow and breath at the same time and had to grow and gain weight. He was 4 lb 12 oz when I was able to take him home at 5 months old. He has seemed to do very well, or so I thought. He is very active and is always on the go either outside or just around the house. He is a great little boy, happy, friendly, polite and whenever he is asked to help pick up his mess or anything he does it without any problems (unlike his 13 yr old sister but I guess that comes wit being a teen) We were in a bunch of tornadoes April 2007. Lost my husband, parents, our home and belongings. Its been rough. And now whenever it storms Skylar gets so scared he literally throws up. Got hit by a Semi Sept 13, and lost Analeesa due to the impact of the wreck. I know she is in a better place but I still feel a void. Well Skylar wanted me to give him a Mohawk so of course I did on July 9,2013. After shaving the sides of his hair off I noticed several spots where it looked like I might of gotten the hair shorter than the rest. I didn't think much about it, then on July 15th we went for a walk and someone came up to me and asked "what is wrong with your son because he looks like he has a disease" That totally scared me so I tried to do some research and couldn't find anything. I was really worried so July 20,2013 I took him to Urgent Care. The doctor came in, looked at the spots and told me it was Alopecia. (I have never heard of it so I had no idea what it was or is) They also said he is too small and wanted to do blood work and also check for malnutrition. During the blood work,(I was holding him) well the lady wasnt very smart, she got 1 vile of blood and while in the process of getting a 2nd she was shaking the 1st one right in front of my lil boy. Next thing I new he fell back in my arms totally limp. I flipped out not knowing what was happening or why my lively lil boy was now limp in my arms. Found out he passed out at the site of his own blood! (And the lady kept on doing it grr) Well they got him to come around, made him drink some apple juice and eat a popcycle and sent us back to the room to weight for the results). He was finally getting back to himself after passing out. About 30 minutes later the doctor came in and said his blood work was fine and he wasnt malnurished. He then left the room again. About 10 minutes later a nurse came in with discharge papers (will attach so you can see diagnosis) She told me what they diagnosed him with, had me sign, told us we could go and was walking out of the room. I stopped her and asked her what Alopecia and Failure To Thrive was, she turned and looked at me and said "we have no information on the diagnosis and I dont know what it is, ask your pediatrician" Well that didnt help me. All I know is a diagnosis, not a explanation. I really dont know why he wont gain weight and it does bother me a lot. I had a friend make me this page to try and get Prayers, Information, Awareness, and Support on our Journey.
