If the holidays feel equal parts magical and… well, overwhelming with a new baby in the mix, you’re not alone. The pressure to show up, pack up, smile, and “make memories” can leave everyone overstimulated and overtired before you’ve even buckled the car seat.

In a world full of busy, a healthy, rested parent–baby duo is the real holiday win. A few thoughtful boundaries can turn the season from chaotic to calm.

Try focusing on:

• Protecting naps and feeding rhythms — even if that means arriving late or leaving early.
• Keeping visits short and cozy so baby isn’t passed around like a festive hot potato — our favorite is baby wearing while visiting!
• Saying “not this year” to anything that drains you more than it fills you.

Peace is something you can create, not something you have to perform. ✨️

And if feeding, sleep, or recovery feel wobbly right now, you don’t have to navigate it solo. Nurture’s in-home, insurance-covered lactation consultants help you find a routine that supports both your well-being and your baby’s — during the holidays and long after the decorations are packed away.

Have you ever felt you like have the flu in your breasts? Or developed a hard, red spot on your breasts? Mastitis and clogged ducts can turn an ordinary day into a “What on earth is happening now?” moment.

The good news is relief is possible, and it doesn’t require powering through pain or emptying your breast like it’s a job. Small, intentional shifts can calm the inflammation in your breasts and get milk moving again.

Nurture's quick tips to prevent mastitis and clogs:

1️⃣ Start your feedings/pumpings with gentle massage - Light breast massage toward the armpit/chest wall will help milk move more easily.

2️⃣ Keep milk flowing, but don’t overdo it.
Feed or pump on your normal schedule. Think: “consistent,” not “constantly.” Over-pumping can crank up supply and inflammation and actually make you more prone to mastitis and clogs.

3️⃣ Reduce inflammation early.
At the first signs of symptoms, cold compresses or ice between feeds and appropriate anti-inflammatories (check with your doctor) can bring down inflammation and allow milk to move more easily.

Breast health is a process, and you don’t have to troubleshoot alone.

Nurture’s in-home, insurance-covered lactation consultants support you with calm guidance and a clear plan that brings comfort back to your feeding journey.

Maybe feedings feel rushed, or your baby seems to chug the bottle like it’s a race — and then spits up half of it. Or maybe you’re worried about the introduction of a bottle impacting your breastfeeding relationship.

We have good news — paced bottle feeding that mimics breastfeeding is the reset many families don’t realize they need. It keeps baby in the driver’s seat and helps protect your breastfeeding or combo-feeding goals.

Our top 3 bottle feeding tips:
✓ Shape matters — look for a slope shaped bottle ni**le that fills baby's mouth similar to the breast
✓ Position baby in a way that mimics breastfeeding - side lying feeding is our favorite!
✓ Keep bottle horizontal — this keeps baby in control of milk flow and encourages active feeding

Small shifts, big impact.

Unsure of how to implement effective bottle feeding? Schedule an in-home, insurance-covered lactation consultant who can guide you step by step. We are experts at demonstrating effective bottle feeding and making sure you (and your feeding team) feel confident implementing your new bottle skills!

You just finished a feeding and your baby is showing hunger cues again within minutes. You sit down to pump, and the bottles barely fill. Your heart drops a little each time — even though you’re doing everything you can. It feels like your body is supposed to “just know,” and somehow it missed the memo.

Low supply isn’t a verdict — it’s a signal. And most of the time, it’s fixable with the right plan, the right latch mechanics, and the right rhythm for your body.

A few truths worth remembering:
• Low supply is often about poor milk removal
• Frequent, effective milk removal beats infrequent, marathon pumping/feeding
• Stress, exhaustion, and overwhelm impact milk flow

Things to try:
• Feed/pump at least 10-12 times in 24 hours
• Ensure proper mechanics — if feeding this is a good latch with active sucking and if pumping this is proper pump settings and fl**ge size
• Practice deep breathing techniques or your version of finding "calm" during feeding/pumping sessions

If you’re stuck in the cycle of worry, you don’t have to solve this puzzle alone. You can problem solve a sustainable, comfortable feeding plan with an in-home, insurance covered lactation consultant by your side.

If you’ve ever dreaded the next latch because of the sting or pinch — or found yourself hunching, sweating, and repositioning endlessly — you’re not alone. A painful latch can make even the most determined parent want to throw in the towel.

But breastfeeding isn’t supposed to be painful. A few thoughtful adjustments can turn those tense moments into comfortable, confident feeding.

Try focusing on:
• Bringing baby to you instead of leaning forward
• Aiming your ni**le towards baby's nose
• Waiting for a wide mouth
• Hugging baby towards you with tummy to tummy positioning

Comfort is a skill, not luck.

You can problem-solve an easier, pain-free latch with an in-home, insurance-covered lactation consultant who supports you in a calm, sustainable way. Nurture consultants are here to teach you the skills that will bring your version of comfort and confidence to feeding your baby.

What an amazing weekend of learning, sharing a poster presentation, and networking with colleagues from all over the world!

We hope to continue to create more research on in-home lactation and look forward to other lactation practices around the country (and maybe world) joining us in this endeavor.

In addition to our poster presentation, we set in on some amazing learning sessions. Some highlights of our favorite lactation topics include:

⭐️Bottle Refusal/Aversion
⭐️Insulin Resistance
⭐️Breastfeeding and Mental Health
⭐️Bariatric Surgery and GLP1s
⭐️Breastfeeding Medicine Physicians
⭐️Artificial Intelligence
⭐️Inducing Lactation

Always grateful to learn and build on our skills to better serve Central Ohio families!

Julie and Allyson are honored to attend ILCA this year and provide a poster presentation on our latest research!

113 anonymous Nurture participants completed a survey 1 year after receiving IBCLC in-home care. The findings highlight the results of in-home lactation care with Nurture, exploring breastfeeding duration and confidence.

Picture 2:
Here we see the percent still breastfeeding at 6 months and 12 months as compared to State (Ohio) and National (US).

🟢In-Home Care
90% at 6 months
70% at 12 months

🟣Ohio
50% at 6 months
32% at 12 months

⚫National
56% at 6 months
36% at 12 months

The numbers speak for themselves - in-home care recipients had significantly higher breastfeeding duration at both 6 & 12 months!

Picture 3:
This chart shows participant confidence levels prior to receiving in-home IBCLC care (in purple) and then again after receiving IBCLC care (in green).

We see a significant shift in breastfeeding confidence after IBCLC care!

Picture 4:
Qualitative data was collected via the following questions:

❓What were you satisfied with and/or unsatisfied with about the services?
❓How can we improve?

From the answers to these questions, we found 5 consistent themes:

1. Continuity of Care
2. In-Home Setting
3. Insurance Coverage
4. Quality of Care
5. Goals & Confidence

These 5 themes were what participants valued most regarding their IBCLC experience.
