104 Years of Grace.
Tomorrow, my Great Aunt turns 104. To say she is a survivor is an understatement—she is a walking testament to the strength of the human spirit.
She carries the history of our ancestors in her very DNA. She grew up through the darkness of segregation and the fight for Jim Crow voting rights. She told me the stories of her own grandfather ( My Great Great Grandfather 🙏🏾❤️) who was born into slavery and endured the unspeakable pain of being sold away from his parents and siblings before finding his freedom.
She has outlived so much: the husband and son she adored, her parents, and all of her sisters ( My Granny and Great Aunt) . She has stood firm while the world around her changed a thousand times over.
For 102 years, she was my personal historian. She didn't just tell me stories; she gave me my identity. While it has been incredibly hard to watch her memory begin to slip this past year, I’m so grateful for the time we had especially for the 2024 story she shared with me and EBONY on casting for the first time a Black Woman presidential candidate ❤️🥰🙏🏾 that gave her so much life and something to look forward to doing that year ❤️🙏🏾 Kamala Harris will never know the Life and Vibrancy she gave to my Momma Dear 🙏🏾❤️ I find peace in knowing that I am now the keeper of those stories.
She may not remember every chapter anymore, but I will never forget. Seeing her reach 104 is a blessing I don’t take for granted. Happy Birthday to my Queen, my Black History, ( I Got Black History at Home ❤️🙏🏾) and my heart. 🕊️✨ I LOVE YOU MOMMY DEAR❤️🙏🏾❤️🙏🏾❤️🙏🏾❤️🙏🏾
