Safe gun storage is one of the most powerful tools we have to reduce firearm-related injuries, especially among children and teens. In the U.S., 4.6 million children live in homes with unlocked and loaded guns, according to a National Firearm Survey.

For parents, asking about gun safety in other homes may feel uncomfortable, but it’s a crucial part of protecting kids — just like asking about allergies, pools or pets before a sleepover.

Before a playdate or visit, simply ask: “Do you have any fi****ms in the home, and are they stored safely?” If you’re not sure how to start the conversation, begin by creating a shared goal: keeping kids safe.

500+ coats. 🧥 One amazing cause. All thanks to Larry Stevens and his yearly coat drive at OhioHealth Grant Medical Center.

Larry, who has served in patient transport at OhioHealth for 21 years, has turned a simple act of kindness into a truckload of generosity. His fifth-annual coat drive brought in more than 500 coats for families in need, the largest collection yet.

The mission is personal. He remembers the many people who helped him in similar ways growing up, and this is just a small way to give back.

This year’s pickup day also fell on Larry’s 74th birthday, giving coworkers a special reason to celebrate him and the impact he’s made. His passion has inspired friendly competition across the hospital, with units racing to donate the most. The top two even got to pie Larry in the face — a tradeoff he happily accepted.

It’s a small price to pay to make a big difference for families in need.

Strength training for women, especially as they age, is important for maintaining energy, muscle mass and improving bone density. Proper nutrition can help support training goals and is critical for muscle recovery and injury prevention.

Avoid these common misconceptions to fuel better and feel stronger.

🍌 Misconception #1: You need to eat less to get lean. Skipping meals and restrictive diets are common mistakes. Not eating enough to support your workouts can lead to stalled progress and fatigue. If women are not eating enough, their bodies can go into survival mode — storing everything, rather than using it to fuel and recover as it should.

🥛 Misconception #2: Eat less fatty foods. Women burn fat differently during exercise and need more fat than men, physiologically, for reproductive health and hormone balance. Fat, especially good fats like those that come from nut butters, some dairy products and avocados, help you stay fuller longer and support energy, immune function and vitamin absorption.
