On , we celebrate the power of connection, and how a hug can say what words sometimes cannot.
Chris Burnett and her mother, Eleanor, are both living with Alzheimer’s disease. Together, they choose to treat each day as a new adventure. From short car rides and park visits to sharing a soda with two straws and a laugh, they find joy in the simple moments.
“Living in the moment has given a whole new dimension to our relationship,” says Chris.
Chris is in the early stages of the disease and receiving treatment to slow its progression. She believes early detection can change what is possible, which is why she is passionate about advocating so others can have the same opportunity. “This is my purpose,” she shares.
And while Eleanor’s Alzheimer’s has progressed, when she sees her daughter, she smiles. “Most of the time, Mom isn’t sure if I’m her sister or her daughter,” Chris says. “But she always knows I’m someone who loves her.”
A hug carries comfort, connection and reassurance. For Chris and Eleanor, it is a reminder they are never alone.
Today, hug someone you love in honor of Chris and the millions of families impacted by Alzheimer’s. 💜
