He came out of the slaughter pipeline thin, quiet, and braced for the worst. When he arrived at the farm, his eyes told the story before his body ever could—head low, muscles tight, a horse who had learned that touch often came with a cost. He stood apart, shut down, watching everything and trusting nothing.
The first days asked for nothing more than presence. No halters forced on, no hands reaching too fast—just space, consistency, and time.
Progress came in inches. A step closer. A breath softened. Then, just as quickly, he would shy away again, reminding everyone that healing is rarely a straight line. He needed patience that didn’t rush him and care that didn’t disappear when he pulled back. So the team stayed steady. They met him where he was, again and again, letting him set the pace until trust slowly began to take root.
Today, that same horse is a valued member of the Walk With Me Healing Steps equine team. He stands with clients who know what it feels like to be guarded, to hesitate, to need more time. He doesn’t demand words or explanations—only honesty. In his quiet way, he offers relational safety, showing each person that healing happens when you are met with patience, respect, and room to be exactly where you are.
Our equine partners are valued members of our team and we are looking for 2026 equine sponsors to support the work we do! Are you interested in sponsoring one of our friends?
