When Steve Conklin, a police officer, was injured on the job, getting back to feeling “pretty good” wasn't good enough.
Policing demands strength, endurance, quick decision-making and the ability to respond physically at a moment’s notice. Returning before he was truly ready wasn’t an option.
After completing traditional physical therapy to restore mobility, reduce pain and regain baseline strength, Steve began the next critical phase of recovery with Physical Therapist Michelle Turner: work conditioning.
Select Physical Therapy offers work conditioning as part of our WorkStrategies program. It is an intensive, job-specific service designed to rebuild the physical capacity required for demanding careers. For Steve, that meant training tailored to the rigors of law enforcement, controlled lifting and carrying, pushing and pulling, improving cardiovascular endurance, practicing functional movements and building resilience for long hours on his feet.
This program is the bridge between therapy and full-duty work. While physical therapy addresses healing and foundational strength, WorkStrategies prepares individuals for the rigors of their actual job environments. It closes the gap between “recovering” and truly being work-ready.
Through consistent effort, personalized progression and guidance from our team, Steve has been rebuilding the strength and stamina he needs and is ready to return confidently and safely to his demanding career.
