April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month, and Sarah’s Place recently hosted the “Exposing Victim Blaming Through What They Wore” exhibit at Samaritan Albany General Hospital for Samaritan employees.

This powerful display is designed to spark meaningful conversations about sexual violence and victim blaming. It challenges the harmful myth that a person’s clothing, appearance or behavior can justify or provoke sexual assault and reinforces that responsibility always lies with the person who caused the harm.

One by one and at various times throughout the morning, a variety of hospital employees visited the Guest Assistance Desk with a single flower stem in hand to present to volunteer Kay Simon. At the end of her shift, Kay had received 30 fresh cut flowers to represent her 30 years of volunteer service to our hospital and patients. 🌻🌹🌷

Lots of laughter, hugs, smiles and stories were shared, along with a tear or two, as Kay reveled in the surprise celebration that was orchestrated by Mag Leis, the Volunteer Services coordinator. ❤️☀️ By the way, good thing she didn't receive a flower for every HOUR of service, which totals 3,255!
