I never had an Instagram during my pregnancy or first year as a new mother with River, so it’s wild looking back through the archives of my camera roll and seeing which memories I feel called to share.
Instagram really does have the potential to be such an intimate scrapbook.
A photo reel for friends - or the whole world - to see and read you freely - and maybe even see themselves in your experiences. I’d say ideally, it’s where the best of our vulnerable journaling, pairs up with photos & video snippets, to all say something a little more.
It’s through these shared experiences that we relate, feel more connected, & more liberated in being open about ourselves & our reality.
I’ve come to find that in being our authentic selves, we find the belonging and community that we crave.
During my postpartum, I’ve been shocked to find that this has come easier online than in-person! I’ve never been a flippin online person?!
Online, we can go straight to a course, group, or forum, that directly relates with our passions. People get vulnerable on video calls and boom, fast track to a deep and loving connection.
Yet in-person, where are all of the groups that I love and want to be a part of? Are these just times of covid? Is it me? Is it where I live? Why are all of the mom groups here so far from embodying my values as a mother and as an individual?
I’ve been craving sisterhood. In the flesh. Laughter, adventure, & continuing the spontaneity of our lives with our babies in our arms. For the longest time, I just couldn’t find it. I thought, surely I'll intersect with the women I'm looking for when I'm meant to.
I felt a great deal of accountability for not attracting the sort of community into my life that I was looking for. What am I hiding? What am I not opening myself up to?
When I got real about what I wasn't doing, I realized what I needed to do.
Open up and create. Like-minded people aren't going to find you if you're not making yourself known and creating what you want.
In-person connections, now more than ever, are calling on us to create the world we want.
Create what you crave mama xx
