Today the Nicholas County Commission declared our county under a LOCAL STATE OF EMERGENCY effective immediately until further notice.

THERE IS NOT A CASE OF COVID-19 IN NICHOLAS COUNTY AT THIS TIME. THIS IS A PRECAUTIONARY MEASURE.

What this entails:

👉 We are NOT closing travel of citizens or taking any action to close any private sector organizations. The State will provide them guidance.
👉 The Courthouse is STILL OPEN at this time.
👉 The public is asked to CALL BEFORE YOU GO to the Nicholas County Courthouse or any other government owned facility, and to try to take care of business over the phone to reduce foot traffic in our facilities to protect the public and our employees.
👉 The Nicholas County Commission is prepared for any assistance that will be offered by the State or Federal Governments, including the reimbursement of unordinary expenditures that are incurred because of the COVID-19.
👉 The County will now operate under the Local Emergency Operations Plan until further notice.
👉 Under Code Section 15-5 The Nicholas County Commission may waive the procedures and formalities that otherwise would be required by law pertaining to the actions as listed in this Order.

These are unprecedented times, and therefore we are taking unprecedented steps to safeguard Nicholas County Citizens as well as our own staff and any/all revenue or other county assets.

I'm certain most if not all have heard that Jeff Bess passed away last night. Ive thought alot today about what to write in this post. Every time the post always seemed to come up short. I can't even begin to list all of the good things he did, or all of the ways he touched the lives of so many people. Nothing I can write will come anywhere close to touching the untold acts of kidness Jeff performed. Nothing I can say will patch the hole his passing leaves in our community. Words are completely and utterly insufficient to describe Jeff. For one of the only times in history I have nothing I can say. I do have one final message for Jeff. If you happen to come across a donut, you know what to do. We love you Jeffy.
