Imbalanced blood sugar is a fright! 🎃 Here’s how to keep it balanced this Halloween:
1️⃣ Start the night with a protein heavy meal balanced with fat and plenty of fiber. Protein, fat, and fiber not only satiate and nourish but they slow the glucose release, dampening blood sugar spikes and crashes. 2️⃣ Pick your favorites – Even if you use all the tricks, treats still turn to glucose in your blood, no matter how much protein you pair them with. Choose your must-have treats and leave the rest behind! 3️⃣ Go for whole food treats – Ingredients your body recognizes (like coconut sugar and grass-fed butter) are easier to process, leaving more energy for balancing hormones and other vital functions. I like to trade my candy for homemade baked goods, and my kids will swap me for the “better” options that have better quality ingredients and are formulated without dyes. I will have these stashed at home, and keep in my bag to be ready to swap anytime we get bombared with treats (which is literally everywhere this time of year). 4️⃣ Walk it off – A 20-minute walk after a treat helps burn off glucose and prevents it from being stored away as fat. 5️⃣Create traditions that are not centered around sweets...hype up things like spending time with friends and neighbors, dressing up in fun costumes, carving pumpkins, or watching a favorite movie.
Enjoy the season with energy, balanced hormones, and no sugar crashes! 🍂✨
