Poppet Magick
Colors have always been used in Magick for their specific vibrations and energies. In Poppet Magick, color is usually used by using the appropriate colored fabric to make the poppet, thus bringing about the desired affect. Appropriately colored candles can also be used in your ritual to further add potency to your spell. I've taken the time to provide you with the most common colors and their corresponding associations. If you can't use the desired colored fabric to make your poppet, then try using a "gray" fabric, which is neutral, to make your poppet. Once your gray poppet is complete, add colors to the ritual by using candles. Please choose wisely and appropriately for your intended purpose.

Making the Poppet
Poppets can be be fashioned from all kinds of materials. Usually, a poppet is made out of cloth but can be made of a variety of other materials such as: carved roots, grasses, grain stalks, corn husks, fruit, wood, paper, mud, wax, clay, metal or lead, all formed into a human shape. These can then be dressed in simply made clothes and stuffed with a variety herbs, stones and other magical items needed to effect the purpose of the spell or work.
You also need a taglock if you are able to bind the poppet to the person. A taglock is the part of the poppet that links it to the person it represents. Ideally personal items associated with the person the poppet is intended for should be included in its preparation i.e. it could be dressed in material taken from clothing once worn by the person, a sample of handwriting or a photograph, personal items such as a lock of hair or nail clippings, and even bodily fluids such as blood, semen or saliva. The important thing is to create a link between the poppet and the intended recipient of the spell or work.
Use your imagination! Poppets can be as simple or as elaborate as you like, but as they are generally made to represent another person, care should be taken to learn all you can about them, before you determine the need and purpose of your intent. In magical traditions it is believed the more work you put into preparing your spell, the more effort and time you put into it, the stronger your link will be to your target the stronger and more potent your focus and intent.
While the possibilities are endless, just like in any spell work, you’ll need to set a goal and the means of achieving it.
Naming the poppet and giving it life
Like any ritual tool, once made, the poppet needs to be consecrated, named and dedicated to the work in hand. Most importantly, repeatedly TELL the poppet who it is they represent. You can say something simple along the lines of “I have made you, and you are John Smith”, or whoever you are doing the spell for or for a more potent effect you can use this naming ritual -
Little one, I made you and now I give you life
I name you (persons name)
Their body is your body
Their breath is your breath
Their passion is your passion
Their blood is your blood
Though separate you were
Now you are one.
Then you infuse it with personal energy to bring life to your poppet. Sometimes this is done by breathing life into the poppets mouth through a straw. In this way the poppet takes on a magical life of its own, which activates the spell or working. Remember to keep any poppet you have made in a safe place. The doll represents the person so you wouldn’t want anything unpleasant to happen to that doll.
