One important rule in candle magic is to always use a new, unburned candle when performing a spell. One candle should be used for one purpose. The color of high-quality candles runs through the entire candle, not just the surface. You can use any size or type of candle you wish.

Anointing the Candle

Prior to performing any spell, the candle should be anointed. This is typically done with a small amount of natural oil such as grapeseed, virgin olive, cinnamon, almond, or jojoba oil. Rubbing the oil onto the candle with your fingertips infuses the candle with your energy and intention. Once your candles have been anointed, you can perform one of the following spells. Just remember to use a new candle for each spell.

How to Cast Your Healing Spell

Before you begin your spell, you need to use the green ink pen to write your intent on the white piece of paper. This can be a healing request for yourself or someone you love.

Write down all of your healing wishes, including how you want that person to feel and what body part or ailment needs to be corrected. For example, you may wish to cast a healing spell for your grandmother. You could write, "With these healing thoughts, I wrap Grandma Betty's arthritic hands in a blanket of God's healing light, removing all inflammation and easing her pain." This is your letter of intention.

Carve into the candle a symbol that best represents the person.

Anoint the candle with plain virgin olive oil or other vegetable oil.

Mix the lavender oil and virgin olive oil in a bottle or vial. Add cap or cork stopper before shaking to mix.

Hold the candle and ask the higher power of your belief system to empower the healing energy you are sending out.

Create a mental image of the person you wish to help as looking happy and healthy. Focus your intent as long as possible.

Light the sage bundle.

Pass the candle, bowl and letter of intention through the smoke one at a time to cleanse away any negativity that surrounds the person you're helping.

Set the bowl on a flat surface, such as an altar or table.

Place the letter inside the bottom of the bowl.

How to Anoint the Healing Candle

Anoint candle before completing your spell:

Start in the middle of the candle and with your fingers, rub honey in upward strokes as you work your way to the top tip of the candle.

At the point where the honey begins (middle of candle) use downward strokes to rub lavender oil mixture down the bottom half of the candle.

Place the candle in the center of the bowl.

Pour a ring of salt around the candle.

Sprinkle sage and mint along the salt circle.

Pour a small amount of spring water into the bowl inside the salt rings, careful not to displace the salt (salt will moisten and possibly melt).

Add the flower petals to the surface of the water.

Light the candle and visualize the person being surrounded by healing white light.

Focus on the candle's flame and recite a short incantation, "I send healing white light, love and blessings to [insert name]."

Allow the candle to burn itself out.

Once you are done with the spell, bury the remaining materials in the ground.

Binding Spell for Protection

Sometimes you might find it necessary to stop someone else from harming you, your possessions or even from harming themselves. A binding spell prevent the person from the negative activity they're engaging in.

Supplies Needed

For this spell, you'll need to anoint a large white candle. This candle needs to drip wax while it is burning, so shop for this type of candle. You'll also need the following items:

White candle that drips wax while burning

1/4 cup anointing oil (virgin olive or other vegetable oil)

Small flat tray, fireproof

1/2 cup sea salt

1/2 cup sage, fresh and chopped

1/2 cup of rosemary, loose needles

Pen (red ink for anger, purple for sadness)

Paper (Papyrus or thick parchment paper is preferable)

Spool of black thread

Straight pin

Photo of person

Pair of scissors

Cast Your Binding Spell

Focus on stopping the activity that is having a negative effect on your life. You will need to anoint your candle and then follow these steps:

Set the candle on a tray to catch the extra wax drippings.

Use a straight pin to attach a photo of the person to the candle who you wish to bind to the candle.

Pour a ring of salt around the candle.

Pour an outer ring of sage and rosemary so the salt ring is inside the herbal ring.

Write down on the paper all the things you want to prevent the person from doing.

Use red ink if these activities make you angry or purple ink if they make you sad or hurt your feelings. For example you could write, "I bind Sandy from spreading false rumors about me."

Use the pair of scissors to cut the paper into individual strips of statements.

Place these on the tray, surrounding the candle (make sure you can read each one).

Wrap the black thread several times around the person's picture and the candle, so it is bound to the candle by the thread.

Light the candle and recite what you wrote on the slips of paper.

Allow the candle wax to drip over the picture and the thread while you meditate, focusing your intent on binding this person from those negative activities.

S***f out the flame.

Light the candle for the next seven days, repeating the words on the paper.

Be sure to focus on your intent and allow a thick layer of wax to build over the thread and image.

By the seventh day, the photo should be covered with wax.

S***f out the candle and bury it along with the remain in the tray.

Tips for Spell Casting

When using white candles to perform rituals or cast spells, always make sure your reasons are justified. Do not cast spells with the intent of revenge or harming others, as this can come back threefold on you. Always extinguish the candle's flame by s***fing it out. Never blow the flame out, as this will disperse the energy contained within the candle

Poppet Magick

Colors have always been used in Magick for their specific vibrations and energies. In Poppet Magick, color is usually used by using the appropriate colored fabric to make the poppet, thus bringing about the desired affect. Appropriately colored candles can also be used in your ritual to further add potency to your spell. I've taken the time to provide you with the most common colors and their corresponding associations. If you can't use the desired colored fabric to make your poppet, then try using a "gray" fabric, which is neutral, to make your poppet. Once your gray poppet is complete, add colors to the ritual by using candles. Please choose wisely and appropriately for your intended purpose.

Black: Sadness, evil, mourning, overcome fears, depression, loss, confusion, discord, to curse or break a curse, Banishing

Blue: Subduing, calmness, serenity, spirituality, Spirituality, devotion, tranquility, understanding, patience, health

Brown: Non-specific, untangling, general good, magnetism, hesitation, uncertainty, animals

Green: Luck, money, wealth, financial success, fertility

Orange: Peace of mind, good health, courage, vitality, spirit, encouragement, adaptability, stimulation, attraction, creativity

Pink: Success, promotions, conquering bad influences, honor, love, morality

Purple: commanding, compelling, overcoming enemies, power, healing, tension, ambition, business progress

Red: Love, attraction, friendship, well-being, life force, strength, health, vigor, sexual love, Protection

White: Truth, purity, spiritual strength,Protection, Spirituality , sincerity (if you're using candles in your ritual, adding a white candle with any other candle color will enhance that other colors' powers)

Yellow: Dispell evil, drive away jealousy and envy, calm tensions, attain intellectual power, attraction, persuasion, charm, confidence, creativity

Gray: Cancellation, neutrality, stalemate

Greenish Yellow: Sickness, cowardice, anger, jealousy, discord

Black; Banishment

Silver: Spirituality , Prosperity

Gold: Prosperity

Making the Poppet

Poppets can be be fashioned from all kinds of materials. Usually, a poppet is made out of cloth but can be made of a variety of other materials such as: carved roots, grasses, grain stalks, corn husks, fruit, wood, paper, mud, wax, clay, metal or lead, all formed into a human shape. These can then be dressed in simply made clothes and stuffed with a variety herbs, stones and other magical items needed to effect the purpose of the spell or work.

You also need a taglock if you are able to bind the poppet to the person. A taglock is the part of the poppet that links it to the person it represents. Ideally personal items associated with the person the poppet is intended for should be included in its preparation i.e. it could be dressed in material taken from clothing once worn by the person, a sample of handwriting or a photograph, personal items such as a lock of hair or nail clippings, and even bodily fluids such as blood, semen or saliva. The important thing is to create a link between the poppet and the intended recipient of the spell or work.

Use your imagination! Poppets can be as simple or as elaborate as you like, but as they are generally made to represent another person, care should be taken to learn all you can about them, before you determine the need and purpose of your intent. In magical traditions it is believed the more work you put into preparing your spell, the more effort and time you put into it, the stronger your link will be to your target the stronger and more potent your focus and intent.

While the possibilities are endless, just like in any spell work, you’ll need to set a goal and the means of achieving it.

Naming the poppet and giving it life

Like any ritual tool, once made, the poppet needs to be consecrated, named and dedicated to the work in hand. Most importantly, repeatedly TELL the poppet who it is they represent. You can say something simple along the lines of “I have made you, and you are John Smith”, or whoever you are doing the spell for or for a more potent effect you can use this naming ritual -

Little one, I made you and now I give you life
I name you (persons name)
Their body is your body
Their breath is your breath
Their passion is your passion
Their blood is your blood
Though separate you were
Now you are one.

Then you infuse it with personal energy to bring life to your poppet. Sometimes this is done by breathing life into the poppets mouth through a straw. In this way the poppet takes on a magical life of its own, which activates the spell or working. Remember to keep any poppet you have made in a safe place. The doll represents the person so you wouldn’t want anything unpleasant to happen to that doll.
