You may have experience or know someone who’s been in the foster care system, and you don’t want that for your child. There can be long waiting periods, upheaval shuffling between foster families, and many other difficulties… but adoption doesn’t have to be through DHR.

Ann’s New Life Center works with a handful of professional adoption agencies in the Birmingham area. We can introduce you to a pregnancy counselor in a no-pressure meeting here at Ann’s where they can get to know you, help you consider your options, and answer your questions.

You can choose how involved you want to be in finding a family for your child. You can read about them, look at pictures, and even meet them before making a decision. You can decide how involved you want to be in the child’s life. There is closed adoption, where you have no contact. There’s fully open adoption where you become friends with the family, meet up with them, and exchange pictures frequently. And there’s in between.

The agency will provide you with a personal advocate (separate from the adopting family’s) to make sure you are taken care of. They provide counseling, financial resources, and legal assistance.

If you decide that adoption is the best plan for you and your baby, you will likely experience difficult feelings of loss and grief, but most women who make an adoption plan with an adoption agency say those feelings are paired with hope, peace, and possibility, as well.

If you’re facing an unexpected pregnancy and aren’t sure what to do, reach out! We can help you think through your options and provide you with the resources you need to make a peace-filled decision for you and your baby.
