Happy CHD Awareness Week

February 7–14, 2026, is recognized to honor "Heart Heroes" and raise funds for research.

"Remember our Hearts" (Feb 12, 2026): A day of remembrance for those lost to CHDs. People are encouraged to light a candle at 7:00 PM local time on February 12th.

While survival rates have improved (with 95% of non-critical and 69% of critical CHD cases surviving to age 18) continued research is needed for lifelong care.

How to Get Involved: Utilize hashtags like , , and to share stories, wear red ribbons, and contact local officials for proclamations.

January is Esophageal Atresia Awareness Month 💜

This condition is rare, but the strength of the children born with it is extraordinary.

EA is part of Ava’s story. Over the past 9½ years, she has faced multiple esophageal atresia surgeries and has received care at both Children’s Minnesota in Minneapolis and Boston Children’s Hospital. Watching her endure so much with courage, determination, and resilience leaves me in constant awe of her strength.

This is a journey she will carry with her for the rest of her life — but it is one she continues to face with bravery every single day.

By sharing Ava’s story, we hope to bring awareness, understanding, and support to families walking a similar path.

Awareness leads to compassion. Compassion leads to change.
Thank you for being here 💜

Ava had appointments today with Cardio and pulmonology.
She really is doing amazing. Her echo looked great overall. (EF is low/normal and heart is a bit enlarged but nothing they are worried about today). She is still having bouts of chest pain (which they think is nerve pain at this point) and random tachycardia. They are still thinking that the elevated heart rate is due to injury of her vagus nerve during surgery. She gets dizzy, lethargic and short of breath at times when her heart rate goes up. Other times, it’s crazy high and you would never know. She’ll be laying in bed reading a book with a heart rate of 140. If she continues having symptoms we might try some cardiac meds to lower heart rate.
Her pulmonary function test went very well also and her Doctor couldn’t be happier about where she is at today! The surgery in Boston was rough for sure, but her breathing has improved so much over the last year. Mommy actually teared up during that appointment thinking about how far she has come. ❤️
After all of that, Ava was excited to go for Indian food and hang out by Lake superior. Lost track of time and spent a few hours watching waves 🌊
