Where does your body hold stress? Mine sits in my chest, dense & heavy like a rock. And with present times being as they are, anger, grief, anxiousness & fear have been building up there.
The first thing I do when I feel this way is… ignore it (who else likes to pretend stress will magically go away if you try really hard to NOT acknowledge it?) 👋
When I’m ready for real relief, I turn to my breathing. My breath has always been a dependable tool — a natural part of being that I have immediate and complete control over. But that’s not true for everyone.
We’ve witnessed George Floyd and many other black people have their ability to breathe violently stolen from them. Honestly, I almost didn’t post this, because this image is a very blunt and distressing reminder that the fact that my BREATH is my own and that I can sit here writing about it is a PRIVILEGE. It’s extremely horrific and wrong.
