The theme for National Nutrition Month® 2026 is "Discover the Power of Nutrition."
Our own Registered Certified Dietitian Sarah Tannen is here to offer a glimpse into how she leans into the power of nutrition in her everyday life:
Like many of my patients, I thrive on structure—but also value flexibility. I’m very much a creature of habit when it comes to food, especially during the week, relying on simple, repeatable meals that make prep, grocery shopping, and busy days easier. Keeping consistent staples on hand—like hard-boiled eggs, cottage cheese, yogurt, arugula, fruit, vegetables, rice cakes, and lean proteins—allows healthy eating to fit seamlessly into my life. I also love repurposing leftovers and creating unique food combinations that are surprisingly really good.
My philosophy centers around protein-forward meals that are quick to assemble, easy to repeat, and flexible enough to adapt to changing schedules and energy levels. Structure helps reduce decision fatigue, while flexibility keeps nutrition realistic. I’m not perfect, and I intentionally make room for foods I love—sushi, Italian dishes, dark chocolate, and the occasional glass (or two) of red wine—because balance matters.
Movement is an important part of my routine and something I genuinely enjoy, whether that’s cycling, boxing, lifting weights, or walking. Outside of work, I love spending time with my family, my fiancé (we’re getting married soon!), and our nieces and nephews, along with cooking, traveling, and learning about wine and different cultures and cuisines.
