Hands up if you made a long list of resolutions for 2022? What if I told you the best way to improve your health and well-being is to pick just ONE, and I mean ONE small step and start there? It might sound crazy, lazy, insane, not in line with our culture to try and do it all? Well guess what - it is actually the best way to ensure success. Seriously!
Our brains are wired to default to old patterns deep in our subconscious. You can absolutely rewire the patterns, but it takes time and focus. And to think you can do it all at once unfortunately just sets you up for failure.
How do I know this? Well - research says so, but also I have lived it MANY times.
Getting your health and well-being back into balance is a journey. It takes numerous small steps, implemented one at a time. That’s what sets you up for success.
Here are my favorite ways to start the journey - pick ONE, work on it until it becomes your new pattern, then start working on another.
#1: Hydrate - by this I mean 1/2 your body weight in ounces of water EVERYDAY. And no, coffee certainly does not count! Maybe start with 1 glass of water BEFORE your AM cup of joe. Heck, if you want to get really crazy add some pink Himalayan salt and lemon to really boost the hydration effect
#2: Fill your bucket - this goes along with that old adage “you can’t pour from an empty cup”. Find what fills your bucket - meditation, journaling, singing in the shower, a podcast on commute to work. You pick. Whatever it is, DO IT every single day.
#3: Movement - every single day. Move your body. Find an exercise you LOVE - walking, running, hiking, yoga, boxing, strength training, dancing. Again, you chose. But do it because you like how it makes you feel/how you feel when you do it - not because of what you ate yesterday 😉
#4: Increase variety in your diet. Maybe make a goal to eat all the colors of the food rainbow every day? Or try a new vegetable once a week. Or make a new recipe with a new spice. Ultimately work on branching out of your comfort zone with food and include as much variety as possible.
Dig deep & shine bright,
