Music can be so therapeutic. Have you ever listened to a song and felt some kind of peace? What about sadness? Excitement?

Heres an exercise: listen to your favorite song, pick out a couple of lyrics that you know by heart and think about why that resonates with you so much.

Since we’re a couple days out of World Mental Health Day, it’s important to remember that mental health doesn’t just happen on one day. 4 in 10 US adults reported they felt anxiety or depression during the pandemic…and that’s only those who answered a survey so I imagine it’s higher than that. A few tips on how to start addressing your mental health: create a schedule and consistency, include some type of movement, spend time outside, and remember that what you put into your body effects your mental health as well.

Did you know emotions and our body are extremely connected? Sometimes emotions are felt because our body is trying to guide us.

For example, close your eyes (or lower your gaze to the ground if closing your eyes is not comfortable) and think about something pleasant from the past week…when you have that idea really tune into it and feel where in your body you are feeling that pleasantness. It might be in your face because you’re smiling, or in your chest because your heart feels warm.

Once you start to be curious about your own body you can learn a lot about what’s happening for you emotionally, too.

I know things are still hectic in our world and it can be difficult to stay present. Now's your time to get crafty and create a mindfulness jar (video to follow). I do not own the idea of a mindfulness jar, I am simply posting a "how to" video so you can create one for yourself. These can be used by both adults and children to help you stay in the present moment.

I am also posting a link for those of us who need written instructions rather than verbal instructions.

School time is coming! Parents don’t need to feel guilty for choosing to either send their child to school or for choosing distance learning. If you remove the guilt you’ll be able to be present for your child in either way. Remember we’re still in a pandemic and no one person knows what’s best for everyone but YOU know what you and your family need. Honor it!
