KBIS 2026 Day 2 was strong!

Ended last night with the Elkay 2026 Design Council at Helena Modern Rivera with wonderful food and even better company. I was reminded what a small world this industry is when I reunited with coworkers from 25 years ago!

Picked up with the council this morning for a private tour in the Elkay booth, a Designer Perspective discussion on the Elkay Liv filteation system, and a Circuit Chef workstation sink demonstration by Chef Darren McGrady who was the private chef to Princess Dianna. We even all got a signed copy of his book Eating Royally!

I explored more of the west hall and the south hall today. Still a strong theme of texture and a revival of traditional styling throughout.

That’s a wrap for me! KBIS 2026 did not disappoint!

Ended last night with Samantha Vogt and Chandler Bond at The Icebar at the Mountain Plumbing Products soiree!

Day 1 of KBIS was a hit! The reoccuring theme I am seeing is rich finishes, colors, and textures.

So many beautiful products! Too many to picture all of them. Visual Comfort gold and glass, Cafe new Rejuvenation Handles and Daltile Vintage Revival texture tile.

Now, I am honored to have been selected as one of the Elkay 2026 Design Council members and they are hosting a dinner for us at the Helena Modern Riviera tonight!

💕 FEBRUARY – Love Your Home - Fall Back in Love with Your Kitchen

Your kitchen should be a space you love being in — not one you tolerate.

Design has the power to transform frustration into joy through better layout, storage, and flow.

This month is all about loving where you live.

Country Living, Reimagined

Country living at its best comes to life in this beautifully transformed kitchen and family space. What was once a closed-off, dark kitchen has been opened and thoughtfully integrated into a functional, welcoming hub that truly embodies this family and their everyday lives.

The formerly isolated kitchen now flows seamlessly into the much-used family room, creating connection, light, and purpose. At the heart of the space sits a stunning 48" AGA induction range, flanked by pull-out spice and utensil storage, then balanced by a panel-ready refrigerator and matching pantry for a cohesive, furniture-style look.

The sink wall is crowned with beautiful windows that frame breathtaking country views, flooding the space with natural light. Functionality was never overlooked — a large trash drawer, generous farmhouse sink, dishwasher, and plenty of drawer storage for dish towels and everyday essentials keep this hardworking area beautifully organized.

Open shelves flank the windows, giving this proud “plant girl” the perfect sun-filled home for her greenery. Appliance garage doors pocket neatly away, allowing effortless access to small appliances without cluttering the countertops.

The charming corner windows and plantation shutters were enhanced with built-in seating and drawers, instantly becoming a favorite hangout for neighborhood kids and adding warmth and character to the space.

What was once planned as a coffee and wine bar evolved into something even better suited to this family — a dedicated snack station complete with an undercounter refrigerator and large drawers for easy grab-and-go access. A new exterior door now provides convenient entry from the driveway, a long-standing gap that greatly improves daily functionality.

The show-stopping island anchors the kitchen with softly rounded corners and seating on two sides. Holiday storage is tucked neatly on the seating side, while ample drawer storage supports the sink side — beauty and practicality working hand in hand.

Layered lighting brings the room to life with dimmable recessed lights paired with rattan decorative fixtures that add warmth and sparkle.

And the transformation didn’t stop at the kitchen. Opening the space into the family room allowed for the addition of the true coup de grâce — a stunning furniture-style cabinet with lighted glass doors, finished with exquisite cremone bolts. A dedicated desk area provides space for both children to do homework and easily doubles as a buffet when entertaining.

The oversized bar that once dominated the corner was reimagined as an AV and games cabinet, tailored perfectly to family life.

The final thoughtful touch is the custom family cabinet that replaced the coat closet. The digital calendar that keeps this busy household running is now neatly tucked away, along with everything this family needs at arm’s reach — all beautifully organized in one central location.

These spaces now tell the story of modern country living — warm, functional, welcoming, and uniquely tailored to the people who call it home.

I love it when a plan comes together!

Spring construction begins with winter planning.

If a remodel is on your mind, now is the time to begin the design process so everything is ready when the calendar turns.

Let’s start shaping your vision.

From Closed-Off to Completely Connected

Originally, the space featured an oversized, outdated island with load-bearing columns and awkward openings that visually and physically separated the kitchen from the rest of the home. A second, much smaller island only added congestion—more in the way than truly functional.

The columns were removed and replaced with an undetectable structural beam, opening the kitchen to the rest of the home and dramatically improving flow, sightlines, and everyday usability.

Outdated cabinetry was replaced with a carefully balanced mix of slim shaker wood and painted cabinets, adding warmth, contrast, and a timeless design aesthetic. A new, highly functional island now anchors the space, incorporating the sink, dishwasher, trash drawer, and generous storage, along with additional cabinetry on the seating side.

Cabinetry was extended into the breakfast nook, providing ample concealed storage while discreetly hiding small appliances—keeping countertops clean and clutter-free.

The hood was seamlessly integrated behind sleek cabinetry and framed by a vertical tile backsplash, adding visual height and modern interest. Quartz countertops were selected to support this family’s lifestyle, offering durability, beauty, and virtually no maintenance.

Lighting was updated throughout the kitchen to include a layered combination of task and decorative lighting, enhancing both functionality and ambiance.

The result is a bright, open kitchen designed for real life—where beauty meets purpose and every detail supports the way this family lives.

Lightovation hit it out of the park again this year, particularly in regard to NKBA involvement. Monday was a day with several specific NKBA events, including the 2026 Trends Report by Tricia Zach, followed by a wonderful panel led by Blair Loftspring, including Mitchel Oborney, Kelly Ingles, and our very own Thu Trinh, winner of the 2025 Texas North Plains KABA awards. This report and panel were followed by a tour of 9 showrooms led by our Dallas Market Center contact, Lauren. An Zeyl and yours truly. Sherwin-Williams also announced the color of the year - Universal Khaki! It was a wonderful day of education.
