I am so grateful for all the birthday wishes and blessings I’ve received from all of you across all platforms. I feel so loved and am honored to have so many well-wishers. Today on my birthday, I remind myself the importance of self love and being my authentic self. Self love is the root of love we feel for others and is an integral part of wellness. While self care is part of self love, self love is so much more than that. It’s forgiving yourself when you mess up, it’s being gentle with yourself when you are struggling, it’s celebrating when you achieve something.

As I continue celebrating my birthday week, I share a healthier version of a double layer chocolate cake with chocolate frosting. Does it taste just like a regular cake? No. Does it taste good? Yes it does and in my opinion tastes even better! While this is still an indulgence, it’s nice to have healthier options to celebrate special occasions. Plus, in addition to decorating it with berries, I snuck in a few veggies into this cake and unless I told you, you’d be none the wiser!

Staying hydrated is so important for our health. Drinking enough water can help with energy, looking young, and mental clarity to name a few of the benefits. In addition to drinking water, eat water rich foods can also keep you hydrated. Fruits and vegetables are mostly water (and fiber another important ingredient for health as well as nutrients but that’s a story for another day!) so fill your plate with your favorite fruits and veggies and drink plenty of water through out the day.

Happy Doctor’s Day to all my fellow physicians! A few years ago, I left the practice of medicine because I was burned out and didn’t feel I was making an impact on people’s health. Since then I’ve forged a path to health and wellness for myself and people around me, outside of traditional medicine and love the balance and fulfillment I feel now.

I express my appreciation to the MDs and DOs who work tirelessly for their patients, to improve their lives, and have given so much, especially during the pandemic. Even though we set aside this day to honor doctors, take time to express gratitude to the doctors in your life, whether they are family, friends or your own doctor every day and any time you see them!
