Yesterday at Volley for Children with Fostering Dreams Foundation, I was reminded how important it is to stay connected to the work that truly impacts our communities.

Fostering Dreams Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded by Vallery Mitchell, dedicated to supporting children in foster care by providing free events, resources, and experiences that increase their sense of acceptance, visibility, and normalcy.

This fundraiser supports their Christmas program, helping ensure children and families are able to experience joy, support, and meaningful moments during the holiday season.

What Vallery has built is powerful. It is not just about services, it is about creating spaces where children feel seen and supported.

Being in rooms like this reminds me that impact is not just what we build, it is what we give back.

Grace used to feel like slowing down to me.
Like I had to pause everything to “reset.”

But the truth is…
life doesn’t always give you that option.

Sometimes grace looks like showing up anyway.
Not at 100 percent. Not perfectly.
But still showing up.

It’s giving yourself room to be human
without letting yourself fall off.

Because discipline will build the life.
But grace is what allows you to sustain it.

And if you don’t learn that balance…
you’ll either burn out or never move.

It is a signal.

When your time is filled with follow ups, fixing mistakes, approvals, and constant questions, you are not operating as a leader.

You are operating as support.

And the longer you stay there, the more your revenue stalls, your energy drops, and your team becomes dependent on you.

Pushing harder will not fix this.

Structure will.

And for nearly 6 years, I’ve been operating at a high level.

Building
Leading
Scaling

Without really stepping away.

At first, it feels like discipline.

But over time, I started to feel the impact in a different way.

Not in my work ethic
But in my clarity

And eventually… in my physical health.

And I realized something:

Pushing through was no longer discipline
it was starting to cost me

Because I’m not just maintaining what I’ve built.

I’m building what’s next.
