We talk about movements as if they survive on passion alone.
They don’t.

Historically, every major social movement has required funding, infrastructure, and leadership decisions behind the scenes. Civil rights. Women’s rights. Labor movements. None of them moved forward without economic backing.

That part of the story is rarely discussed.

Business owners have always played a role. Sometimes visibly. Often quietly. But never neutrally. Where money flows. Who gets resourced. What is sustained and what is allowed to fade. Those are leadership choices.

With everything unfolding right now around immigration enforcement and grassroots mobilization, it’s worth naming this truth clearly. Movements are shaped not only by who shows up in the streets, but by who supports the work long before the streets fill.

Advocacy is not just protest.
It’s policy. It’s funding. It’s access. It’s accountability.

And for those of us who lead businesses, our decisions matter more than we may realize.
