For seven and a half years I have poured my heart into Metta Association with no salary, only service. We have fed families, mentored young men, taught life skills and fatherhood classes, and fought for mental health and recovery. I built this from my own battle to survive mental illness, addiction, and rebuilding as a single father. By the grace of God and relentless work, I turned pain into purpose. Now we are creating four powerful programs to take nationwide and transform mental health, fatherhood, and recidivism with real solutions that change lives.

But we cannot keep going without you. I have taken no salary for seven and a half years. As a disabled man living just under Social Security, I cannot continue this work alone. Metta has already changed lives and brought hope where there was none, but we want to reach further and help more families and communities. We urgently need your support today to keep this mission alive. Every gift, large or small, makes a real difference. Please stand with us, believe in the work, and help us continue to bring healing and change. Donate now and be part of this mission:

"Recidivism is one of the most fundamental concepts in criminal justice. It refers to a person's relapse into criminal behavior, often after the person receives sanctions or undergoes intervention for a previous crime." - National Institute of Justice (NIJ)

Recidivism has many factors on why people "relapse" in their criminal behavior:

* unemployment
* education
* economic opportunity
* depression
* lifestyle
* mental health
* negative peer associations

How can we help these people?

We know that it's one of the major problems in the U.S. According to study, 68% of the released inmates from different states were convicted to a new crime and education is the most effective approach in reducing recidivism.

These are the other ways to reduce recidivism according to Trend Wyoming:

1. Improving the defendant's motivational factors
2. Early assessment of risks and needs
3. Incorporating education into carceration
4. Improving substance abuse treatment

This is a complex issue in our society today and we have to raise awareness on how we can help reduce recidivism in our community.

Share this post to help us spread awareness of and how it deeply affect the lives of people branded as and those people around them.

There is a survey that showed more than 80% of patients agreed that their mental health conditions have a damaging effect on their family.

It has a huge impact on family's emotional, physical and financial aspect that could relatively hurt and affect the relationships between family members. This worsens when a family member's mental condition is ignored.

When family relationship is healthy and supportive, a person suffering from mental health issues is most likely responsive to treatment. Emotional support, companionship, familial support, economic support can have a positive impact on someone coping with mental heath problem.

On a negative side, family relationships that's not supportive, discriminative, skeptic about mental health issues have a huge impact on one's psychological health and can can even cause harm even worsens the condition. A person suffering from these mental health condition relies often to his/her family and denying them the care and support will impact them negatively.
