CDC says fully vaccinated people can safely travel in the US

By Brittany Chang

The CDC announced Friday that fully vaccinated people can safely travel in the US.
Vaccinated travelers or people who have recovered from COVID-19 will no longer have to quarantine or get tested.

This is the first time the CDC has declared that travel is safe for vaccinated people.

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention released new guidance Friday that people who have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 can resume travel in the US as long as travelers are masked.

These vaccinated travelers - or people who have recovered from the virus in the previous three months - will not have to quarantine or be tested for COVID-19, the CDC said. However, it still recommends avoiding crowds and hand washing.

Fully vaccinated travelers looking forward to a vacation abroad will still have to be tested for COVID-19 within three to five days after traveling, but will no longer have to quarantine after arriving back in the US. However, the CDC notes that international travel could still be a risk for vaccinated travelers due to new variants of the virus.

The agency previously advised against all travel, even with the COVID-19 vaccine. As a result, this new announcement marks the agency's shift in attitude towards travel during the coronavirus pandemic.

Despite the CDC's previous recommendations, air travel has continuously been on the rise since March . As a result, tourist hotspots like Miami Beach, Florida have seen a massive influx in visitors , signaling the start of an impending summer travel boom due to pent-up demand and a more robust COVID-19 vaccine rollout.

Adjacent industries - including cruise lines and airlines - have been relying on a strong US vaccine rollout to revive travel demand that was decimated by the COVID-19 pandemic. However, the CDC is still advising against travel "due to the rising number of cases," CDC Director Rochelle Walensky said during a press briefing on Friday.

NEW YORK: A MAN HOSPITALIZED FOR COVID-19 FOR 2 MONTHS, RETURNS HOME TO EMPTY APARTMENT.

After spending nearly two months in the hospital fighting COVID-19, an East Village man returned home to find nothing but his piano and pet tortoise inside, according to NBC New York.

The New York City NBC-affiliate reports that 60-year-old Rao Nagaoka was sent to the hospital on Jan. 27 with COVID-19 after someone found him on a floor crying out for help. Once he started to recover, he was transferred to a rehabilitation center to help him get the strength back in his legs.

When Nagaoka came back home on Wednesday the station reported that he found that his key no longer worked, and when he called the building’s superintendent all that was left inside his apartment was his piano and few other things.

U.S.A. Sets new vaccine record with 3.4 million doses administered in one day ( by Axios).

The U.S.A. broke its previous record for most COVID-19 vaccines administered in a single day, with 3.4 million doses reported on Friday, according to the White House.

Why it matters: President Biden on Thursday set a new goal of 200 million doses administered in his first 100 days in office. At the current seven-day average, which increased to 2.62 million daily doses with the new record on Friday, the U.S. would comfortably reach that goal before his 100th day on April 30.

By the numbers: States have reported a total of 133.3 million vaccine doses, with about 117 million administered since Biden was inaugurated, according to Bloomberg's vaccine tracker.

26.3% of Americans have received at least their first dose, and 14.3% have been fully vaccinated.
Biden has called on every state to make every adult eligible to receive a vaccine by May 1, and over 40 have already said they plan to meet or beat that deadline.
Yes, but: That doesn't necessarily mean states have enough vaccine supplies to offer appointments to everyone in the new groups, which could slow down the pace of vaccinations.

No More Direct Deposits for Stimulus Checks after Wednesday( 2 days ago).

The third batch of stimulus payments for coronavirus relief continues to be sent out, but those who haven’t gotten theirs by Wednesday should start checking the mailbox instead of their bank accounts.

The Treasury Department announced this week that no more direct-deposit payments will be made after Wednesday, so Americans still awaiting their money should now look for a mailed check or prepaid debit card.

The department announced last week that it had sent $242 billion worth of payments to 90 million Americans. Many of them received a text that there was a pending deposit earmarked for their bank account.

To track the status of a stimulus payment, use the “Get My Payment” feature on the IRS website.

Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp signed a sweeping omnibus bill on voting elections, SB 202, on Thursday.

The bill expands early voting for most counties and requires identification to vote by mail.
More controversial provisions would change the structure of the State Elections Board.

The big changes: When you can vote and who oversees the board.

FAMILY SAYS WOMAN DIED FROM REACTION TO CORONAVIRUS VACCINE

NEW YORK - The family of a Kansas woman who died unexpectedly on Wednesday claim it happened from a reaction to the coronavirus vaccine.

Jeanie M. Evans, 68, of Effingham, died at the Stormont-Vail Hospital.

Topeka TV station KSNT reported that Evans had received her shot the day before and was taken by ambulance to the hospital after she started experiencing a reaction.

Her Evans leaves behind three sons, two daughters, a brother, three sisters, 15 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren.

There have been other cases where families blame the vaccine for deaths. A Virginia family says 58-year-old Drene Keyes died hours after receiving the vaccine. State health officials disputed the claims that the death was vaccine-related.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have not confirmed any death connected to a COVID-19.
